my hair is naturally wavy and frizzy. This wasn't a problem when i had a boring haircut, I would just put mousse in it or flat iron it, but now I got a more vintage cut with bangs, and I need to know how to make my hair look good. Help?

Back in the day, I had several clients who had luck with Kiehl's straightening balm. Also anything by Redken usually works very well. If you hair has a tendency toward breakage (a shredded or fuzzy halo) then the Anti-snap line of Redken would probably work really well for you.

Good luck!

On the extra frizzy days you could wear your hair in a snood. That's what I do when it's beyond the point of taming.

You could also try using anti-frizz serums, for me it acts as a weak mousse and is pretty helpful. There's also a lot of helpful tips in the Curly Haired Catastrophes forum, everyone in there was really helpful. :)

I have thick, coarse, dark hair and it frizzes up when the humidity is high (hello, it's raining, big 80's hair today!). If I am not setting it, then I use the old school affordable remedy of Alberto V05 hairdressing. Just like Brylcreem, a little dab will do ya. It tames my frizzies, gives me shine and doesn't feel greasy (as long as I only use a tiny pea size for my shoulder length hair, since the main ingredients are mineral oil and petrolatum).

That sounds like a good thing to try. Do you know of a good brand (preferably one that doesn't test on animals)?

Okay so I checked the three things that I use and only one states that it doesn't test on animals. It's the designeLine Silk Drops from the Regis Hair Salon and while it doesn't state on the front that it takes care of frizz it works wonders for me (and says so on the back). I also use frizz-ease and citreshine but it didn't mention animals so who knows..

Good luck! :D

I would recommend the Paul Mitchell "smooth" Line, the serum is AWESOME! Also, PM is an animal friendly brand- they do NO ANIMAL TESTING! try it out, its a great scent and works really well. Also try Aquage curl cream before you blow dry mixed with any type of 'silk' drops. Blow drying with a boar hair bristle brush will also do wonders, the better ones are a little pricey but in my experience they do smoothing wonders. I've seen majorly coarse curly hair go to straight & soft within a blowdry!

I've also been a frequent visitor to Frizzyville and you're right, when hair is longer, it's easier to tame because it's weighted down. I have a layered bob now and use a smoother (I like Prive - no animal testing and smells like sweet lavender) on towel dried hair (if I let it dry naturally) or if I blow dry (use one of those nozzle attachments that directs the heat and keeps the hair shaft smooth and blow from roots to ends), then put the smoother on after it's dry, but only use a tiny bit.

And when I head out the door to work in foggy, coastal morning air, I put a beret on - the best smoother of all.

I noticed the African American hair care section has an impressive array of curl enhancers and anti-frizz creams. Has anyone tried these? They have Care Free Curl which looked interesting and they also had a Shea Butter Shampoo. Would this be like washing with conditioner?

My hair is naturally curly. When frizz strikes, depending on my hair style, I will usually rub a small amount of pomade (Dax, red) in my palms and smooth it over my hair. I also find that if I set my hair too loosely, I get a lot of frizz.

i am naturally super curly too I pin curl mine at night while it's wet and before it goes into the pin curls it gets a bit of light hold gel for good mesure, then when I comb it out in the morning I run this white stuff by panteen in a little pumpy bottle through it to kill what fiz is left
