Date and Opinions on this White Linen Suit?

I've always wanted a white linen suit and finally nailed one I could afford on eBay. To me it looks like 70s does 30s. Am I right or is it older? Whatever the date, I like it and if the measurements in the description are accurate, it will fit with only minor alterations. I don't know why, but no one else bid on it and I got it for $9.95.

Also, there's a bit of foxing on the trousers - is oxyclean safe for linen?

I have used oxyclean on a pair of linen plus fours with no problem. I soaked overnight before washing.

OxyClean is safe on all but animal fabrics - so linen is okay. However, the thread used (especially for buttonholes) could be silk, which is _not_ OxyClean safe. Obviously on trousers this is less of a problem (just try to keep the waistband and possibly rear pockets dry).

I once used OxyClean in an attempt to remove shoe scuffs from the cuffs of a pair of tan linen trousers. I soaked just the cuffs overnight in a strong solution (probably too strong) of OC. The next day found most of the scuff marks gone along with the tan coloring, which had faded to off-white/cream. Just sayin'......

Why oxyclean? I've had plenty of luck using plain ol' laundry detergent and handwashing in lukewarm water.

Any suggestions for treating a stain on Palm Beach cloth?

I got my first PB suit, but there is a light stain on the shoulder.

Thanks for the info on cleaning. Unfortunately I won't actually have the suit in my hands for awhile - the seller would only ship to the U.S., so I had them send it to Miss1929 and will pick it up the next time I go down to SF. It won't be until May, but it's a moot point since I wouldn't be wearing it until summer anyway.
