I'm excited ladies...I've been keeping an eye out for local dance courses and found one for the lindy hop (unfortunately I have meetings at that time) as well as the balboa. If I can spring for it, I'll take the balboa six week class. I'll be going alone, which will make me a little nervous to start, but I took lessons as a youngster so this will be like getting back on the bike. :D

I have absolutely no dance shoes by the way...aim for capezios? Might low to mid heeled shoes with a slightly slick bottom work (if I can't get dance shoes by the first class)?

Thank you Paisley! That thread was very informative, and funny! I've just signed up for the class and am looking forward to learning and a good workout. ;)

I wanted to note how the Balboa class has been coming along. We're only in our second week (of six), and are several steps ahead of their previous class. We have the "basic" (8 steps, er shuffles) down, the rock (back, aka reset), the inside and outside turns down. My instructors have been great. They start by breaking down each section that involves 8 steps. Doing the basic on our own to start was slightly awkward, but when we paired up and then rotated partners we got the hang of it. And now its easier for us to partner up and do the dance to music (and moderately fast tunes).

The class is starting to look like a swingin' dance party. :)

Glad to hear you're coming along so well! I went to the Rocky Mountain Balboa Blowout last night and had a great time. The jack & jill competitors danced to some really fast music and did some awesome moves!

Ok, I'm in major trouble here! My first swing dance is this weekend, and I've made a dress and I had ordered dance shoes from a local dance supply shop THREE WEEKS ago.

I told them I needed the shoes no later than March 4th. At anyrate, they still aren't in "they expect them any day"... but any day it too short now seeing as I have to leave for my even tomorrow before they open. So, since I wear a size 11 and NO stores seem to stock that size, I have to figure out something with what I own.

These are my only two options...

These are my favorite, are super comfy... but quite high heeled.

These are my other option.

Which pair should I choose? I was trying to go in 1940s costume which means the high heeled oxfords, but I"m concerned that they'll be to high once I start dancing.
