D-pocket jackets with left handwarmer

I've been wondering for a long time why D-pocket jackets don't have left-side handwarmer pockets, and then I saw this Avirex on eBay...

Just goes to show there's always exceptions and variations. It's a bit different from the classic D-pocket, but I think it works.

I have seen a few as well. Well, mostly on repros, like for example, all Lee Trevor ones had left side handwarmer but it's possible. I really dig Aero's Daytona for that same reason.

The Daytona, to me, is bassackwards. The whole point of the D-shaped pocket is to put the straight zipper along the back of the D. On the Daytona, this seam is stitched down, and then a zip is put on the round end of the D, not along the seam, but inside it.

D-pockets make no sense to me. Almost all have the pocket on the left side, which would mean reaching over with the throttle hand. Drives me nuts.

i never put my hands in the pockets of my jacket (if I can help it). My jackets have pockets for stuff, not hands.
That's why pants have two front pockets! I will say the lack of handwarmer symmetry is odd on the classic d-pocket but it's never swayed me away from the pattern.

Better than releasing the clutch if you're stopped in first gear. Plus most wearers will be right handed.

If you're stopped, it doesn't matter at all - you can snick up to neutral, or cover the rear brake, and use either hand. But should you need something from a chest pocket while in motion, it's surely easier to take the left hand off the bars.

I'd struggle to ask the missus to ride pillion to work just so she could reach into a poorly designed pocket for me. She has her own business to run after all.

Point being, these d-pockets look cool, but for actually riding, a right-side napoleon pocket is the far better solution. Like Aerostich jackets and the new Vanson X Union Garage V7 (not a napoleon, but on the right side).

I've not seen a Hercules like this one. Impressive. Must be the earliest of the Hercules D pocket offerings. Are there any pictures of the back and label?

Ok that's what I thought. What confuses me is: Napoleon is reaching into his pocket with his right hand, and that's how a D pocket on the left side of the body works. So I don't follow what you're saying. It sounds like you think D pockets are not practical, but the napoleon pocket you say is better is exactly what I understand a D pocket to be: a vertical slit on the left side of the chest for reaching into across the body with the right hand.

Yes, but Napoleon pockets on motorcycle jackets should be on the right hand breast, so you can operate them with your left (non-throttle) hand. The Sears/Hercules on here works fine too, since you can just dip your left hand into the pocket, but (only) a right hand-specific pocket on a motorcycle jacket is dumb. Unless you ride a Goldwing and have cruise control, of course.

Could the pocket side be a variation from the English. It didn't occur to me until reading this thread that Barbour internationals have their chest pocket on the left requiring right hand entry. Works if the left hand is the throttle hand. In this vicinity not so much.
