Keep in mind that Aero/Thurston dont keep jackets on hangers for years at a time like you would. Jackets probably only spend a few months on them before they are bought. Most jackets they sell probably go straight from the makers table to the buyer.

I would love to see if they have a jacket that has been stored 10 years on one of their hangers, see if the shoulders look ok. I was not ready to conduct that experiment on one of my jackets.

That's a great point! Too bad you're just not that much of a scientist :D

I bought 40 of these suckers a while ago off eBay and replaced all my old jacket and suits hangars .....couldn’t be happier....doesn’t hurt my OCD either, having every single jacket on the exact same hanger. (Don’t pretend you dont know what I’m talking about lol)

To me it seems obvious the slight slope and thicker shoulder portion distributes the weight of the jacket better as it mimicks an actual shoulder.

I’m sorry but I just don’t see how the weird thin Aero hangers could possibly be better than something like this....They look so blantantly NOT what you need I’ve never been tempted to order on just to see and Carlos’s pictures confirm it for me.

As for the creases down the front of the jacket.....I don’t get this one...why are sleeve creases great but creases anywhere else bad? To me a leather jacket is always going to be an inherently casual item of clothing that actually looks better when worn in...trying to stop it creasing naturally doesn’t compute.

That is some impressive OCD! Here's the OCD I'm considering: get the Aero hanger and then rotate: 1 week on the Aero, 1 week on a standard flared hanger, 1 week flat. I'd never actually go through with it of course, but it would make the stupid perfectionist inside of me marginally happier.

LOL could you imagine someone like @Mysteryo or @tmitchell59 (and way too many others here) with enough mannequins for all of their jackets!!!
Mannequins for all jackets of @Mysteryo or @tmitchell59? It's hard even to imagine, it's going to be whole regiments of mannequins then, and they will require lots of room to settle them all. Then it's going to be a whole huge mansion totally filled with mannequins! Sounds a bit frightening doesn't it? And those myriads of mannequins might cost serious money. So, the idea of using mannequins instead of hangers sounds quite questionable indeed.

A cheaper alternative would be a series of lifesize papier-mache models. Getting more to the magical side, perhaps golems or, to bring it back to reality, paid performance artists of similar proportions to the wearer. The inventive ways that one could counter the vertical jacket crease are limited only by your imagination, time and willing.

Well I noticed my Highwayman, after a year of hanging on a normal hanger, was developing the vertical creases and that they flatten out on the Aero hanger, so all mine are now on Aero hangers, some of which are reinforced with pipe lagging for the heavier steerhide jackets.

The main cause of ugly creases down the front are liner choices and inside pockets.
Aren’t the creases 99% just down to having front chest pockets? (Outside and go lesser extent inside?) What difference does the liner make?

Aero jackets with no chest pockets= no weird creasing. Jackets with chest pockets= Vertical creasing between zip and pockets.

I wonder if it would somewhat fix the problem if they extended the leather used to make the pocket all the way to the zipper?

Then I remembered this jacket you posted, Ton, and wondered if it’s creasing of its own accord or because it has internal pocket(s)?

In regards to the Aero hangers I (wrongly or rightly) assumed they’re supposed to resolve this creasing being formed by the hangers:

I think that’s definitely part of it. The leather breaks around the chest pockets for sure. I don’t consider creases a problem. I’ve seen some around handwarmers and inside pockets/ liner facings that would annoy me a bit but in general I think it’s absurd to think the front and back panels won’t crease and will remain perfectly flat. Personally I think that wouldn’t look good at all. It’s unnatural. Even if you avoid the “dreaded” vertical crease, you will still develop horizontal creasing from wild activities like bending over to tie your shoe, driving or riding in a vehicle etc.

I think cxl is far more prone to retain memory of these types of creases. Thinner hides or those not packed with oil and wax are likely far less prone to them. That said, see my pics in the thread. Even my vintage jackets had them. But I don’t see them as a fault or having a negative impact on the jackets aesthetics. That Vanson above had a zip in liner. The creases there were formed by the zipper track. The CR is an SB so it probably needed an SB hanger. LOL. That one just did that from go. Tbh it was a bit small in the neck. But I don’t think a larger neck hole would’ve mattered.

Jackets are supposed to crease for sure. They’d look peculiar if they didn’t. Creasing by design I’m just not quite so sure about...

Yet sleeves crease by design as do back panels if worn snug, as do front panels in A-2 or jackets with snug waists and looser body.

Those shoulders creases seen in Ton pics are due to his own shoulders shape, that can’t be prevented unless it’s made bespoke like a suit. Some of those appear on cotton, wool or denim jackets too.

Thing is the crease you circled in red would happen even if you never used a "wrong" hanger just by wearing the jacket! Like most of us @ton312 is shaped like a wrongly shaped hanger, not like a square hanger...

Yup. All my top half garments crease like that. It’s just the way it is, I suppose in a way, per the way I wear them. If I throw a 2XL T-shirt on it will lay flat as board across the front. But it won’t look right.

Sorry, you missed my point, that's not what I was suggesting at all. Sure creases can be made by design, but the long vertical creases to many of us don't look like an attractive crease. Intentional creases look 'right', while that crease looks a bit 'off'.

Similarly, I also didn't suggest that the shoulder creases I circled in red were a) bad, or b) entirely a hanger issue, merely that putting those creases there by means of a hanger was something that I think Aero are trying to prevent us doing. Another thread contained a lot of posts on the matter, suggesting those creases are more prevalent in Aero patterns- I'm not going to attempt to dig that out now, but that's where I first saw the Aero hanger mentioned.

Guys, I was just discussing the intended/supposed purpose of those hangers that most of you seem to dislike! I'm not so bloody stupid as to think that jackets won't crease or our body shapes are not like hangers etc etc. Crikey.
