Lady Day, your Oxfords made me think of the pair I bought when I moved to Oxford (you just have to, really ). I never posted these when I bought them, and they are a little scruffy now, as I have been wearing them CONSTANTLY since October, but I really love them. The brand is "Bellini 1951" which I've never heard of.

I totally love them. I'm sure you'll get just as much joy from yours as I have from mine!

I got a pair of the Keds maryjane (eBay, $20!!). They're cute and comfortable, but definitely for dresses only. I've tried wearing them with trousers and they just look like black sneakers.

These aren't really vintagey per se, but mostly I'm looking for an opinion. My favorite pair of black heels have been dying a slow and painful death over the past few years, frequently revived by multiple trips to the cobbler.

I've decided it might be worth it to shell out some dough for a pair of classic, wear-anywhere black pumps and am looking for something that's timeless and sophisticated without being boring. High quality and durability are also necessities.

These are Delmans and they are on a crazy sale right now, but still about 3x as much as I usually like to pay for shoes. I'm looking for comments, since I trust everyone's taste here

Kitty, I think that if you're looking for a timeless pump, that shoes isn't it. The heel is very distinctive and might look dated in year or two.

Cherry Lips' are really lovely, but they're also a bit too plain for what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I've also never found a cobbler that I would trust to do work of quality comparable to the price they'd charge me for custom shoes!

I actually really love the architectural quality of the heel on this shoe - it's pretty similar to the heel on the shoes that I'm replacing, which I've been wearing for the past decade or so. I do like when the heel comes under the arch of the foot, as it provides extra arch support.

What I'd really love are a pair of Dana Davis heels with built-in orthotics, but all of her styles are a bit too trendy for my taste. This search is made more difficult by additional criteria that I have - no suede or season-specific materials, no patent leather, and no sling-backs or peep toes. I love peep toed shoes but they are just not practical for all season-wear :-(

I would be all over this shoe by Sofft if it had a closed toe - I absolutely love it. And I like that they are comfortable and have a durable laminate heel that's resistant to a lot of abuse.

I see where you're coming from though. I really like the Sofft heels you posted! Too bad about the open toe. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for though. What's your take on the Re-mix Babydolls? If I were you I'd take the pair of beaten up favorites and have a cobbler copy them.

Oh hey now! That's not how I meant it at all and you know it! They're just not what's right for me.

What's your take on the Re-mix Babydolls?

I think they're great, though not horribly comfortable (the leather is too stiff, for one) and too tall for all day wear. I actually emailed Remix recently to ask if they've ever considered a lower-heeled version of the babydoll for all-day wear. It was received positively. However, I don't think I'd ever pay full price for a pair of Remix shoes - from my experience, I think their shoes are priced for styling over quality.

That's a good idea. Again, my main problem is that I'm not sure I'd get something perfect, or comfortable, and my cobbler is too expensive. I'm actually going out to price shop a new one today. I have a huge pile of shoe repairs!

Here are the shoes I need to replace. You'll see why I was struck by the Delmans - same almond-shaped toe, high vamp, similar feel to the heel. Pls excuse the lousy phone pic...

KittyT, I just got these Softspot shoes from DSW. They are beyond comfortable and have some similarities to your favorite pair. The stitching may be too much for your needs, though. Either way, thought I'd share.

Kitty -- you might want to take a look at the "Bombay Lights" line from Clarks. I'm in the same boat as you so far as Re-Mixes being too high and too stiff for all-day-at-work wear, but I got a pair of these last year and they're the most comfortable heels I own. I am wearing them right now, into the tenth hour of a twelve-hour workday, with no discomfort at all.

I'm not entirely enamored of the throat on these -- they're cut just a fraction too toe-ward for my taste, but the toe itself is comfortably rounded and the heel is pretty much a perfect duplicate of a typical late-thirties/early-forties daytime heel.

I got mine from a place in the UK, but I believe they're now available stateside, in black and assorted colors -- they aren't inexpensive, but they're worth it.

I just bought a pair of mens' Red Wing boots... I think I'm in love. Comfortable, classic looking, no nylon bits or padded cuff like so many work boots have, and welted construction so I can get them resoled.

I'm one of those who wear long skirts w/ boots, though.

I wouldn't go lindy-hopping in them, but they feel real nice.

lol I did this too! Bought a pair of Redwings and wore them every day, with every thing. Ten yrs later I retired them. Not exactly vintage, but my then-boyfriend-now-husband thought it was adorable.
