I made this hat at the request of a member here. I was going to wait until he posted pics, but I was down loading pics from my camera and found these. He can speak up about the hat.

It is a beaver felt brim, with a milan straw crown.

He can probably put up better pics, these are the ones I took just for my records.

That's pretty cool! The straw crown with the felt brim goes very well together. I bet that makes a great summer hat for the wearer not willing to give up felt in the hot months. :eusa_clap

That is the oddest looking thing I have ever seen. What a beautiful piece of work. Great hat, Jimmy.

Jimmy,
I must apologize I am very sorry that I have not gotten to posting or even taking pictures of this outstanding hat. Summer in south Mississippi gets very busy. I will say that it has been worn almost everyday and has seen more than a few rain storms and is still as nice as or maybe even more so than when I got it.

To everyone else,
I wear a fedora every day from when I leave the house till I go to bed at night. I wanted a straw hat that would be very cool, block the UV rays and at the same time take a fair share of rain. With that in mind I asked Jimmy to build such a hat. This has got to be the ultimate summer hat for me, the crown breathes exceptionally well and the brim has got to be the ultimate UV ray blocker. Rain is an everyday occurrence here, you can almost set your watch by it and this hybrid has weathered more than a few storms and shows no sign of it. I know at first it may look strange but to me it is about function with a little style thrown in. I need to have Jimmy build me another very soon so that this one can at least rest and dry for 24 hours.

Sounds like your new hat serves its intended purpose very well. I have to congratulate you and Jimmy for coming up with a design that incorporates style so well into an everyday hat for your location. Very well done!

The crown is 5 5/8", the brim is 2 7/8 front and back, 2 5/8 sides.

Unfortunately, when the felt gets cut, I bit over and inch of the crown to attach th straw and sweatband to. So the left overs is to short to use.

That's going to be really hard not ordering something similar. The previous poster was right, the brown combination works really well together. :eusa_clap

I've looked at this thread 4 different times and like the hat better each time!
