Curling Problems

Hi all, just wanted some advice on some curling issues I'm having.

When I set my hair, I'm using Denman velcro rollers. I'm putting them in damp hair with setting lotion then blow drying. I leave them for a few hours then take them out and ....nothing.

My hair is very thick shoulder length, and I've tried this method and pincurling and nothing is happening. Short of getting a perm ( which I really don't want), is there anything I can do to get my hair to curl?

Any advice appreciated, thank you :)

Do a dry set, use smaller rollers and leave your set in overnight.

And if you do decide to try pin curls again.....that is most certainly a -start the afternoon or early evening before- thing.

I have thick hair and if its any longer then chin length, it doesn't dry.

On that same end..don't even try using spongy rollers with -wet- hair. You will still be wet in the morning.

Try to leave your curlers or pin curls in over night, so that you have them in for at least 12 hours or so, that, along with setting lotion and smaller sectioning, should do the trick. Good luck, report back with pictures! ;)

It's all in the wrist, apparently...

Or did you mean something other than curling, the sport? :eusa_doh:

When I set my hair, I almost always do a dry set with flexible perming rods and then leaf them in for the night, as the same when I do pincurls.

My hair is normal to thick and when I wash my hair and set it, it won't be dry the next morning, so normaly I first blowdry a little and then curl it.

You just have to try a couple of things to find out what suits you best

I actually did try this once. I fell over a lot and nearly broke myself lol

Many, many thanks for all the replies. You've all given some really great advice and I shall give it all a whirl on my next curling session. If I'm successful, I will indeed post a pic to see if it came out ok.

Thanks again x

I swear by the heated rag curlers by remington.. I have extremely thick hair that is very long and they work great for me!! sometimes to speed up the process I'll blowdry for a little while and that heats them up even more so the curls stay in longer- and I use motion's foaming wrap lotion that is awesome and also hit my hair with a little hairspray while their setting.. it doesn't take very long and you can also sleep with them over night--- sometimes I straighten my hair as soon as it dries from a shower but not too much because you get a little more volume with a little waves :) it makes it easier wrap bigger sections too to get bigger curls and they stay in a little better. I wouldn't suggest doing it everyday because heat can be pretty damageing- so I think pin curls are great but I can't really do them on my own hair :( but I guess experimenting is the best thing to do.. the processes that work really well with one person might not work with someone else... so experiment experiment and experiment and I'm sure you'll find something that works best for you :)

I had the same problems and posted a questionaire type post and the ladies here were very helpful. One of them suggested looking for styling products in the ethnic hair care isle of the dept. store and that's what did the trick for me. I thouroughly wet my hair....even if it means getting back in the shower, and put a generous amount of Motions setting lotion in it. I massage and comb it through my hair till it's thouroughly even and tangle free then I let it air dry while I get all the stuff I'll need. Let your hair get barely damp and then try. My hair is so thick and too slippery to stay in a good set but the setting lotion makes it managable and soft. Hope you have good luck with whatever you try. Oh and not to sound discouraging but you may have to drop heated products all together...I spent alot of money on heated products and none of them but the GHD styler worked. (it belongs to a friend and will be on my wish list forever...it's the one thing I envy of any of my friends...lol)http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml;jsessionid=TXHSARQZSRZYTLAUCLABXCQ?brandId=ghd Good luck!
