We have a wonderful 1954 apartment that we moved into last year. Our dream home, 3 bedrooms, two stories- upstairs is one enormous living room with a fireplace. The rooms, especially the living room and staircase still has their 50's details, though wall papers are modern, but the kitchen and bathroom has unfortunately been modernized into complete ugliness. We hope to be able to fix the kitchen next year and recently found this interesting webiste:

Modern kitchens, retro style.

Thanks for reviving this thread.

Whenever people come to my house, they immediately stop, look around, and seem to relax and brighten. Not kidding. They always say how homey it is, and relaxing, and they love to just sit in my living room and look around. Then they ask if they could come with me to yard/estate sales to which I reply: "No way!" :) I don't need more competition! ;)

Not exactly the 40's look, but as I dislike cookie cutter, when I built my place up north, I wanted it to be really comfortable. These are a few pictures of the home, it was a two year build, and I loved the challenge to do something a bit different than anyone else's home.

Well, since I'm into the 40s era, I don't have anything against electronics but I agree modern designs are ugly.

I'd like to turn one of those modern flat screen tvs or my computer monitor into an old Predicta set, like this one;

Perfect for watching old B series horror movies. :cool: I already own a vintage radio reproducction and an early century vintage wall phone.

This has been done, I saw it on some case-modding site somewhere. They just gutted the C.R.T. of a Predicta and put in a computer moniter screen behind the glass. So it's possible.
