Paul, I think it looks good on you. From the pictures it does appear to be a fairly tall crown and with the bash it is vaguely reminiscent of a cowboy hat, though I think it would need a much wider brim to be one. But I can see where someone who might have only seen cowboy hats in movies could think it looked like one.
I bet once you get the brim reshaped the way you want it, no one will think that again.
