Cordovan steer vs Cordovan FQHH... and tumbling.

The tumbled thing is a mystery to me. Is it not the equivalent of just wearing it for a bit? Seems unnecessary to the hide.if I go out drinking on my jacket...it's tumbled.

I swear the tumbled FQHH of my bootlegger is a bit thinner than regular FQHH.

I could have sworn I read that it was shaved down slightly or something but I do remember reading it was a touch lighter.

Thurston Brothers sent me a sample of tumbled FQHH when I was ordering my Teamster and it was definitely a bit thinner than the regular FQHH.

How much do the jackets weigh in the different hides? (If you know the weight of your jacket, list the size, model, and hide... a teamster 52” will obviously be more than 38” CR)

So I've had both Steer and FQHH CXL Aero jackets, only FQHH in Cordovan. No color transfer from these at all even onto white collared shirts, or light tan seats in the car.

Given the choice as Tony and Nick have indicated, I would Choose CXL Steerhide, but then, I like a 7-9 lb jacket, it's just the little addiction issue I seem to have. The FQHH is also great, but I just prefer a little thicker. The Steer is noticeably stiffer in cold weather, but that's why you leave it on, to keep it warm. :)

The box the steer Highwayman arrived in was labeled 9 lbs so it can’t be too much less than that.

For a completely objective analysis, I remember my brown FQHH Highwayman to be a little more enthralling to look at. More color marbling. But the steer is easier to wear and isn’t as shiny, so pros and cons to both. I’m very pleased with the steer.

@ProteinNerd , would the perceived thinner hide possible due to a lower level of waxes & oils?
I mean, if you start with Two hides from the same batch & hot stuff them both, then proceed to cut & make a jacket with one, whilst wash & ‘tumble’ the other hide (prior to cutting etc), then wouldn’t the second hide have lost some of the waxes / oils?
This could lead to a perceived ‘thiner’ hide, surely?

I've got a rare HH Vanson Enfield in what they term as "reddish tan" and it's absolutely bullet proof. I'll likely wear it for the rest of my life and it will still stand up in the corner on its own. Oh and the color is gorgeous- lots of compliments from the pretty ladies. :)

The cordovan cafe racer i have bleeds quite a bit... aka monitor's old jacket. Has transferred quite a bit on my truck seats... comes out of clothes though.

But i dont care as my truck is old and i wear this jacket with jeans

Now if you plan on wearing your teamster with dress clothes... beware. Mine transfer enough color that i defintely would not wear a white dress shirt with it.

Its a yr or so old and fqhh

I've had that with mine- it got on everything, but washed out of clothes ok. I stopped wearing my LHB because I got irked at having to wash anything lighter than dark blue. I only wear it rarely now.

Mine did also....tumbled Vincenza Teamster. Was really bad on the car seat. I haven't worn it in many moons. It seemed to wash out of the colored shirts, i threw away the white shirt, just didn't look like it would wash out. Mine is about 2 years old, maybe 3.

I have black, brown and battered tan FQHH- have only ever had any colour transfer with cordovan.

Also have a 70s car coat style jacket in a similar colour (not made by Aero). It bleeds in the rain.
