Cooper G-1

Just picked up a Cooper G-1 off the Bay. I had seen these in the Exchange back in the early '90s, but had never had one.

It's a surprisingly nice jacket, easily the equal to the first G-1 I was issued in '90 and far better looking in fit and leather than the Pharr I got handed in '04. If anyone is looking for a late model G-1, I definitely recommend a Cooper if you run across one!

Hehe, I realized after awhile what you were actually asking for. :)

-Shoulder point to point (straight across): 22in
-Bottom of collar to bottom of back (no knit): 22in
-Pit to pit: 27in
-Waist: 22.5in
-Sleeve (on the curve of sleeve): 24.5in

I miss anything?

Nope - thanks. perfect but sleeves seem too short for me...but the larger shoulder might accommodate that. Thank you.

I also have a Cooper G-1 in size 46 that is very nice too, although a bit too big for me, so it is not often worn like some of my other jackets.

I wonder if Pharr still owns the contract. I heard that The Cockpit might have gotten it, but I don't think Cockpit jackets are quite what they were.

How did the Excelled look?

I like my issued jacket. It's held up well. It's obviously not as good as the older jackets. I don't like the synthetic collar. After awhile it started to get matted and look like the hide of a wild animal.
Excelled is what all the young Aviators are wearing. Of course, I am at a squadron that all the JOs are second tour guys and they were winged in 2009. So, maybe the guys hitting the fleet now have a different brand.

Deacon, you illustrate why budget does not always equate to bad. That jacket looks a million bucks.

Totally agree. There are some nice, modestly priced jackets out there. The trick as always it seems is separating the wheat from the chaff. :)

I had an EXCELLED G1 some years back and sold it after just wearing it twice. Wife ordered one as a Christmas gift and it was a bit too tight. Now that Im a bit fatter, I needed a 2XLT from a XLT size. You guys must have eyes like hawks to spot the small differences between one coat manufacturer to another. I can only spot the fake Chinese import G1 knock offs and the Asians keep improving each year.

One simple wish I have is the garment sizing each manufacture uses. All of them are clearly not on the same page. One garment makers sizing might be a much as two to three sizes difference from another. Sure be nice if they could agree on some kind of international standard to simplify everything.

That gets my conspiracy mind all knotted up. :)
