Ain't it great? I so wanted it. Novelty prints are my latest target. But $700 a little steep for my budget. (I didn't buy it) Well worth it for whoever did, though. I've never seen another.

I may print up some fabric of my own to the same design.

How would you go about that? I had a similar thought. A few years back I met a woman who was forming a company called Sin in Linen. She did and makes bedsheets with pin ups. When I met her, she had just been to New York to meet with the people at Dupont, i think it was. They were discussing using her ideas to try out a new process they were developing that was basically like a printer. It could print on fabric without having to spend the cost on setting up a large run. perfect for what she does. You can see her stuff on line.

Perhaps by now, this is common industry standard.

Yup, digital printing. In the UK, they'll generally do a minimum run of 1 metre of fabric. The companies i've investigated you work with a designer and fabric specialist. Looks like a very economic solution to our common problems vis a vis vintage fabrics.

The folks at (the sadly now defunct) UK based repro company Geronimo printed their own fabric somehow (possibly digitally?) and it really came out great. And they used the the correct fabrics, so the stuff really passed for vintage.
Swanky's out of CA is doing it now too:

Binkie, its very likely that the winners will reproduce these items and make back their investment fairly quickly. The Europeans and the Japanese do it all the time. It's business.

I suppose that would close the loop on why really small stuff goes for BIG money. If they can scale it up and reproduce it in modern sizes then it might actually pay off. [huh]

Nice. Filene's is a decent brand from that time----in my own experience with it anyway.

I considered surgery to fit into that thing! Been checking it twenty times a day for the past week, thinking of re-dyeing, inverting the cloth etc.

btw.: Did you check that link the seller posted to the 1920 catalog that featured that suit? Incredible! Bulldog boots, mackinaws, amazing stuff!

Nope. Smaller stuff goes for more because japanese guys will pay more for stuff than Americans or most Europeans. small stuff actually brings more for the same reason very large stuff does. It is the right size of those willing to pay a lot of money for it.

Wow. Not to my taste personally, but I do love the uniqueness of it. But I gotta say, that thing has got to be worth a lot more than that to somebody, regardless of size.
