Notre Dame had me worried the first half! I was glad to see JaMarcus go out on such a high note.....over 300 yds passing. His Mom is a very nice lady, she frequents the little coffee shop below my office......and from what little I know about JaMarcus he seems to be a well grounded young man. I hope he has a great career in the NFL.:) ......he certainly has all the tools!

Geaux Tigers!!!!!!

JMR isn't 100% gone yet. It would be difficult for him NOT to go at this point, but there's still a favorable schedule next year to make a run at a national championship.

Good luck with Saban, Bammer, you're going to need it. Notice Terry Saban is the "excuse" wait until he starts blaming his players for their mistakes, and other skullduggery. Just like "there's no way I'm going to coach at Alabama....."

I DO think Alabama won't have to worry about NFL teams trying to poach him, the way LSU and MSU had to. I think he's burned his bridges with the NFL.

Way to go, Tigers! That's how you represent the supposedly "down" SEC.:eusa_clap Now, I have to wait three loooong days to see the Gators keep the SEC at the top of the CFB world. Go Gators!

Tommy, only time will tell. Personally I don't like the way he left Miami, he should not have lied....that was a major screwup on his part. I DO think he is just what the Bama football program needed at this particular time.....I tend to think he will do a good job while he is there. If he does nothing else, I'd like to see him put some of the "Board Members" in their place and get their hands out of meddling with the day to day operations of the football team (TOO MANY CHIEFS IN "T" TOWN!!!!).
We may not see a big change in the "end result" next year, but I bet we see a noticable difference by his 2nd year......but should at least make things a little more interesting in the SEC next season.;) :D

.....oh and Tommy....I HOPE "J" comes back for his senior year. I'd love to see him get the Heisman. His Uncle hasn't come out and "said" anything, but he keeps hinting that "J" will probably go Pro.......like you said, it would be tough for him NOT too. I guess we'll find out soon.

It's not so much the fact that Saban lied but the vehemence with which he lied. He sounded like Clinton denying the Lewinski affair. I wouldn't be surprised if other coaches use his past lies against him in recruiting.

As far as turning Bama's program around in two years; if he doesn't do it they're going to crucify him. The fans in Tuscaloosa have little patience left as it is. When you're paying someone 4 mil a year you're going to expect results, and fast. That's a tall order because the SEC is stronger and deeper now than it was when Saban was at LSU.

I certainly won't disagree with that Photo.

Guys this Saban's m.o. I didn't ruminate on it a few years ago, because he'd always been rumored to be waiting for juuuuuuuuuust the right job to leave East Lansing. His ego positively thrives on all the speculation every December when coaches are fired all over the country.

When he left Baton Rouge, after a National Championship and working with a good president to get a football operations center and Academic Center for Athletes built, we sucked up the lies about him not going anywhere. He went to the NFL, most Tiger fans understood that this had always been his professional desire.....coach at progressively stronger conference levels until he'd accomplished enough to go to the NFL his "dream job."

Oh, yeah, he decided that on Christmas Eve of 2004 or was it Christmas Day? Nice move.

Now he does this to the Dolphins, Wayne Huizenga is showing a lot of class taking up for Saban. And he does it to LSU, too, on the day of our huge Sugar Bowl game he does the whole "flying into Tuscaloosa" tableau. I'm quite surprised they put of the press conference until this morning, but then, he's the only spotlight this morning.

I've no doubt the Tide will be a better team in the next couple years, and he may well stay, now. He's burned his NFL bridges, most likely, at least with owners and GMs. But, Joe Paterno will be gone sooner rather than later......

I think he will do a lot to get the boosters out of the way, which will help the program in the long-term.

My dad (also an ND alum) left the room in disgust at the end of the third quarter. I stuck it out to the bitter end.

...as to be expected of a ND alumna. :)
Even a subway alum, like me had to stick around.:)
Anyway, this season on balance will prove beneficial for recruitment.
Ty W. inherited an IRISH program beset by on-off field problems,
and Charlie's done a good job so far. :)

Post Script: The Administration at Notre Dame needs to get serious
about Division I Football....
The Rockne era is long-gone, and the college game has
evolved well beyond its humble student-athlete origins.

Indeed, but ND prides itself on keeping the student-athlete hyphenate balanced. I had classes with a handful of members of the starting line, and only one of them had a bit of the stereotypical 'dumb jock' in him.

In contrast, I knew a girl at another Division I school whose student job was actually to attend a class and take notes for a member of that school's football team. [huh]

I understand and applaud ND's academic-athletic policy. However, on
balance it remains that the IRISH are clearly outclassed at Division I level,
fielding B- squads and padding the schedule with equally handicapped
service academy horse teams, and then proving utterly incapable of post-
season Bowl play--the $$$$ payout notwithstanding.

Perhaps a more practical approach would be for Notre Dame to demote to a lower divisional level while retaining its scholastic standards.
Or do as my father's alma mater, the University of Chicago, did and shut down the program.
