Just got a Champ 7 1/4 on ebay. Fits great, looks like never worn, in fact I'm sure of it. Just one thing, there is a string that is attached to the band near the feather that has a little button on the end. It is about a foot or more long and I have no idea what to to with it. Cut it off, wrap it around, what? Can someone please tell me what to do. Thanks, TC

It's a wind chord/wind trolley/more names.

It should loop into itself (if that makes sense?). There should be a small loop near the end which enables you to do so, this then provides you with a large loop which goes over the crown.

I know pictures would be helpful... If that's not helpful enough then I'll try and drag some up...

Wow. Thanks. I'm glad I didnt cut it. I didnt want to do anything untill I asked someone, thanks for the reply. Great hat, black with really small feather, thick felt and satin lining. Small brim, neat hat. Will be looking for another one in brown or olive. Luv these hats! I'm hooked. TC

Hi,

I have seen a couple Champs whose wind trolleys did not have loops. I don't know if they were that way all along, or the loop wound up pulled out or what. Anyway, I just passed the button under the string and then it stayed put when not being used.

The idea, of course, is that one used the wind cord to attach the hat to the overcoat so if it blows off in the wind, the hat can be reeled back in. Thus, saving one from running along chasing their hat!

later!
