Excellent performance by Daniel Craig. My only real criticism would be it could have been improved with a little more plot. Other than that a great start. The title sequences were very original (in a retro way - does that make sense?!)

Here's my take.
Connery was amazing though not the bond from the book who hated himself. He was a tough spy and didn't have that polymath knowledge which Moore seemed to cary in his brain.
My favorite movies are From Russia With Love and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
When Connery was Bond he had to rely on the allies around him and wasn't a one man army. In the books Bond ultimately was working with MI6 and all those around him.
Casino Royale the new movie is one I like for the simple reason that it wasn't over the top. It's a rebegening for Bond. You get to see the character being formed. He isn't a gentleman though he wants to be. He learned some style from Vesper... the drink and the girl and several lines are pulled straight from the book. I see Craig more as a book style Bond with the story eluding to a past that was never mentioned in the movies or the books though is true to cannon with what Fleming designed.
The opening sequence was great though the music was awful... not Bond Worthy.
None of the actors or actresses really stood out though I did like Vesper with her quiet beauty.
The realism shows when you see Bond wearing his tuxedo in a world where noone really needs to wear a tuxedo, or a tie for that matter. He doesn't stand out like a sore thumb or like the tux is out of place... unlike when he wore the suit(needs to be more fitted) though the tuxedo and Craig are an okay match... they just need to find real locations and real events for future films where the tux won't seam out of place in today's society.
overall I like the film. They took some plot points out of the book and added others and turned it into a great adaptation... right down to the line, "The Bitch is dead!"

Yes, the theme song was performed by the lead singer of Auidoslave--I actually don't mind the song itself, as I enjoy that type of music, but it wasn't quite what we are used to as a Bond theme--mind you, neither was Madonna.

I suppose to some--I can't honestly remember the tune at the moment. The beauty of a lot of Bond themes is that they reflect the times to a degree, and the themes are always a huge hint as to when the films were made. They help me, at any rate, get my mind into the geopolitical climate in which the films where made (ie Cold War, the 90s, the New Millenium) and that really helps with the story telling.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I think Daniel Craig is a terrific Bond, almost on par with Sean Connery.
However....I thought that the card playing was a bit too much. Bond always played baccarat, not no-limit hold'um, which is actually a current phenomenum. No one knew the game until a few years ago and it wasn't really played outside of Las Vegas. But anyway, it seemed a bit too topical for me. Bond plays baccarat and plays it well. Does he ever lose ?
And the torture scene was a little too unbelievable. Really.

If Ronin was a Bond film, then Casino Royale is that movie.
(A note on M being a woman, Bond movies are constantly set in the present, always have been. THe same actress as M with 2 different Bonds is merely a nod to her interpretation of the character, and as this is set in 2006, totally believable.)
They can redo the whole cannon with Craig as far as I am concerned.

I went with a friend to see this over the weekend and I was so pleasantly surprised. I've not been able to get through a Bond film before (but I've only seen the Brosnan and Moore incarnations) but I really enjoyed Casino Royale. I thought the opening credits were very stylish, the action sequences thrilling, some of the locations were jaw dropping and the characters interesting. I particularly liked the actress who played Vesper (Eva Green?). I also liked the fact that I think you saw more skin from Bond than any of the ladies! The poker scenes dragged a bit for me but that's a minor quibble. I'd definitely see future installments with Daniel Craig.
