UPDATE
As soon as I had posted the initial thread , having 'phoned "The Salvos" out into the old shitbox car I go ( aircon died 4 years ago !) and into the 36 degree C day I venture. Perth's early rushour , thankfully I am going west then home east ( not North/South which is the killer traffic here !). All 4 windows down the whole 2 way journey

$18 Aussie shekels and I am home with the jacket , "Blousy big" on me , as I already knew. An "L" would be better.
I am 5 foot 11 inch and 90Kg.
GOOD FOR THE WINTER as I would have said in my original native Scotland...

Throw it in the washing machine and dry it it on high heat. It will shrink a bit. I had one too. They are great jackets. I just couldn't get over the stove pipe sleeves.

Got back and see if it is still there. I have one, and it is a nice rough wear jacket.

Quite tempted by something like this myself. Might start with the non-blanket version for the Summer, though (when it's too hot for leather....).

I've got a black one that's got almost 20 years of wear on it, still in great shape, it will probably outlast me.

I own and wear quite a few Carhartt jackets & coats. Pretty much a requirement for residence in Iowa. I've not typically gone for the "spiffy" models, but a few similar have crept into my wardrobe in recent times. The more beat-up and used the better it seems.

I also wear that model Carhartt... I think it must be the state uniform here in Alaska. They do run large, I'm a 42 suit size and I wear a medium.

I have one like the photo at the top of this thread except in medium brown. It may be a size medium tall as the sleeve length fits me perfectly. Love to wear this when not wearing one of my leather jackets... View attachment 149282 View attachment 149283

Never having had the chance to try one on, I've always assumed they fit/look best when you treat it as a jacket that should look similar to the standard pattern Aero Highwayman. Would that sound about right? (It was your HWM that convinced me to give mine a go.) I discovered recently that Carhartt now have a major store in Covent Garden; I must check that out. I like the look of both these and the longer chorecoats.

I don't think these are as boxy as a Highwayman but perhaps they fit similarly. I always assumed a Highwayman would look bad on me (I have a slim build) but if they fit like this Carhartt then I should reconsider the pattern if I see one going cheap.

I bought one of these several years back while working on a construction site. The sleeves were about 5 inches too long and the bottom of the jacket came up to my navel. And it was still large on me. It was the worst fitting jacket I've ever owned. I ended up ditching it at a GoodWill a year or two back.

Perth western Australia ? nah...probably not !

this actually "fits" me , it's just likely one size over.

"L" would probably been perfect

That's very unusual. Maybe you had a poorly made dud, a fake or you have a build that is hard to fit?

I have had three Detroit jackets (and seen a few others) the fit is about as good as any jacket of that design could be. Sleeves are 27 inches on a medium long and the back length is also 27. Pit to pit is 22.5. Perfect for the tall man. The regulars a 2 inches shorter.

Hey @Seb Lucas , where did you buy yours in Oz? I’ve always liked these jackets and your black one looks great.

I think I went through an ebay seller. Can't remember if it was local.
