Do you guys know any thing??????????????? That’s a 1930’s or early 40’s women’s hat! I know a friend that would kill for that. I’m bidding on it! I’m going to give it to a good friend of mine who will keel over with joy! Thanks for the link. This is a really cool lid and is really getting rare! The stitching is totally art deco and this hat shouts 1930’s!

I’m going to bid.

Root.

PS. It’s not scary, it’s classy! Here is a photo of a young Lucy wearing a hat close to the one in question.

Women's hats of the 30's could be plane or fancy! There were so many styles and shapes of hats back then it would really make your head spin! Some times they would pattern a woman's hat after a popular men's fashion. You all have seen some women back then wear hats that look close to a fedora yes? Well, those were women's fedoras! Women back in those days wore more hats then men! Funny how that has switched in some ways. I see more men with hats then women today. Thanks for that link! I'm going to surprise my friend with that when I get it. She's going to die!

I'll be posting some photos of women's hats of the 20's-40's soon so we can all learn a bit more about the matter.

Cheers!

No way! She looks hot man! SEEEEE Sharpe,You have to think of what it might look like on a girl to understand why I'm wanting this ;) The photo doesn't do any justice to the hat. When and if I get it, I'll take some photos of my friend wearing it for you all.

Sorry...but I kinda have to laugh...the second ebay photo of the hat looks like the seat on a bicycle (bird's eye view). It's an interesting hat and I have no doubt the right gal will make it look amazing.

I saw the second image of that hat on ebay and thought it was a bicyle seat. I have seen some of the weirdest women's hats, would not want to try it myself, but those gals who have the perfect face structures could probably get by with it.

Wild Root -- I hadn't thought about putting some goggles or aviator glasses on and turning the cap around -- that would be a cool look. Great idea, thanks.

Speaking of caps, I just found out something that makes me feel really old. This past weekend I went to buy a stocking cap or watch cap and found out they are now called beanies. The young folks in the hat shop had no idea what I meant when I said I wanted a watch cap. And I said I definitely did not want a beanie -- then I found out.

When did that change?! The last I remember, in the 70's we wore those cool watch caps (think Ali McGraw in Love Story or Jack Nicholson in "Cuckoos Nest") and then, somewhere along the line they commandeered the name "beanie" which I associate with those funny little caps kids wore in mid-century (I think Spanky wore one in the Little Rascals, didn't he?).

I must have been asleep the past twenty years, or maybe I just moved to such a warm climate that I was out of touch with that particular hat market.

Yep! You're right K.D.! Spanky wore one. I don't know when the name changed, but I'm on the same page with you K.D.! I'm only 26, but I don't like what they call things these days.

PS. So, you thought it was a bicyle seat eh. Well, tell me what kind of bicyle seat would have stiching like that! ;)

Thanks folks for the feedback, I don't feel so old now.

Leave it to Wildroot to find a photo of Spanky and his famous beanie. Whose fedora was that -- Alfalfa's? And the little gal (Baby Darla?) looks to be wearing some furry contraption. I think Dickie Moore, another rascal, wore a newsboy cap and maybe others did too. I recall Stymie wearing some kind of bowler hat, or was it a top hat?

Yes, both ITG and I replied at that same time with the thought that the hat displayed looked like a bicycle seat. So does the hatters' block. A fat bicycle seat.

By the way, there is another hat, somewhat like the beanie, called a "skully." It is one of those caps that fits snug, even tight, on the head. I've seen some tough guys wearing them, I thought they were opaque hairnets!
