China leads the market with its 'panama' and 'milan' hats that are made of cheap, papery rice 'straw', rather than your standard straw. Japan used to make them as well, at least as early as the 1920s. Back then, they were inexpensive, throwaway summer hats that mimicked the more expensive ones.


That said, I'm surprised that Borsalino would sell a cellulose hat.
