Can I have your opinion on an Aero Board Racer I just got from the Blue Label page?

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone thinks this Aero Board Racer (brown CXFQHH) is a keeper?

I am not asking because of fit (perfect - happy to add pics!) or because of construction (also excellent; stitching is on the whole perfect with the smallest 'wave' in line very occasionally, but streets ahead of off the rack clothing and it is hand made).

My question is about mismatched panels. This is NOT a criticism of Aero; the jacket was listed under the Blue Label because it had mismatched panels, and I know Aero would allow me to return it (it only arrived this morning), and as I said the construction is perfect I think (allowing for it being made by a human).

The first pic shows it most clearly (I have put the jacket in a position to highlight it); the left front panel (right when wearing) is lighter shade, most clearly from about the pockets down. The second pic shows it a little less (and is probably more realistic as no-one stands in the direct sunlight without moving!).

Right now I feel I would be silly to return; it is well made, fits perfectly - snug but not tight - (and finding something where the arms are the right length is tricky for me).

But I suppose I am just asking is it "cool because jackets in the past never had perfectly matched panels, and it will be less obvious with wear!" or "it just looks so mismatched it spoils it".

Any thoughts?

Looks good in the pictures you posted! If the fit is fine I would most definitely keep it.

I think it looks good, but my experience is that if I have an issue with a jacket, it stays with me and I never fully embrace the jacket. My eyes will be drawn immediately to the "problem" and I'll never be satisfied - no matter how many people tell me differently. YMMV

Ok, I get where you are coming from. Here's the thing. As evidenced by the fact that you started a thread, a twinge of doubt is in your head. That won't go away no matter how many people tell you it looks great. What will inevitably end up happening if you keep the jacket is you will sell it a year or 2 from now at a loss because you were never completely able to get the panel difference out of your head. Return it now for a full refund, wait, budget, and buy one you are more happy with. Note I don't say 100% happy, because if you've been reading TFL you will have noticed that permanent 100% happiness is somewhat of a Unicorn. Hence the Classifieds.

Why don't you gently try massaging, warming the darker panel to see if you can get that mottled look of the other panel. I would not send it back, perfection is not obtainable and besides it is as you say a great fit. Any difference only adds to the individuality/charecter of the jacket. Also worth asking Aero for their opinion if you are still not happy.

It looks good to me. Once you get it broken in won’t the mismatching (which I cannot see in the pictures) disappear?

I would ask myself if both sides of a horses ass looks the same? If anyone ask you about the difference I would convey the same sentiment. Wear it like you stole it! The jacket looks gorgeous!

I think it looks fine, someone not looking for a colour match might well not notice. And yes, I'd expect with wear it will become less noticable again.

If it does bother you at all then I'd tend to return it as has been said above, if you find something that bugs you about a jacket then it doesn't tend to go away with time but you only get once chance to return things.

But you asked what people thought and to me it looks great, I wouldn't mind a colour difference like this on a jacket of mine if everything else was good and I don't think I'd notice it on somene else. Also to me leather is a natural product and whilst I get some people do need to have creases and colours matching exactly to me its all part of the material and what makes it interesting.

I think it is a perfect jacket. In my opinion, the beauty of Aero jacket is their "imperfection" (with horween cxl of course)

Unless you are modeling the coat on a stage, who would ever give it a second thought? It’s a cool motorcycle jacket, that will look better with more imperfections. Get a tux for black tie affairs. Enjoy it and call it a day, IMHO.

I think it is a beautiful jacket and I wouldn't have noticed the mismatch unless I'd been told to look for it. If the fit is perfect then I think you should keep it.
Having said that, I am in agreement with the members who have posted about the stigma of a bad first impression. I have experienced this with several jackets that were either a little too short or a little too tight. In my experience this first impression never went away, even as I tried to convince myself that I was cool with the jacket as is.
As I type this reply I think I have come up with the perfect TFL solution: keep this jacket and order another one in blackened brown Vicenza. Problem solved!

Man, please don't be offended by this but if you truly do see anything wrong with that jacket, leather just isn't for you. . .

This is literally one of the least... "mismatched" jackets I've seen.

I think the OP is quite clear on that, he mentioned explicitly that he knew it is a mismatched jacket. I think he just wants opinions on whether the mismatch is something that would deter him for wearing it.
My opinion is that you should focus on the fit: if you are 100% happy with it then keep it, maybe there is mismatch, especially between the right panel and right sleeve I think, but it still is a great jacket. And at a good price.

Honestly, in two months of wear it will be invisible.
My Brown FQHH Aero is more mismatched than that now that it is worn in, and it has a normal label.

I also own a Blue Label Aero. After a month the variations have blended and with more wear it will be even harder to notice. The mismatched areas are actually a part of the leather jacket’s inherent beauty.

I would keep that jacket without a second’s thought, especially since it fits your arms and body perfectly. With wear and patina, the details will blend.
