Can I get some help choosing a color?

for my first fedora i've decided to go first class with an art fawcett custom.

i'm having some trouble making my color choice, and would appreciate any suggestions.

i'm thinking that eventually i'd like to have several hats, one brown, one charcoal, one light gray, and maybe a dark blue. since brown and charcoal are readily available from other sources (like akubra), i'm going to go with one of the light grays or possibly dark blue on this one. i'm leaning towards the light gray as it is probably more versatile.

so that gets me to silver belly, silver mist, and blue smoke. i found a post of a blue smoke here and it looks a lot darker than my swatch. also saw some lighter gray hats but i'm not sure if they were the silver belly or the silver mist -- they look pretty similar on my swatches.

i'd appreciate it if anyone has any comparison photos to point me towards, or any tips on making a pick.

thanks!

I can't help specifically with the color choice. If you are picky about matching hats and clothing, so you might get clues from looking to your wardrobe.

I wouldn't discourage anyone from having Art Fawcett make them a hat. But if you are thinking of buying mass-produced hats later, it seems kinda like going about it backwards. You will likely be spoiled from the get-go. My personal experience has been that my tastes have changed a lot based on wearing 8-10 hats over a few months, and what I would custom order now would be very different from what I would have done only 3 months ago. And I expect that to still evolve.

Of course, if you have a lot of experience with hats, you will know your own preferences, and everything above is irrelevant:)

I just received a hat from Art in the blue smoke and I think it is an excellent all around choice for a color. In person it actually seems a bit lighter than the sample, but with the bluish hue of the gray it is the kind of color that goes with everything. The color is one that looks good all year round and dresses up or down with ease. I'll warn you, though, that the richness of the colors you get from Art's hats will spoil you for the standard fare. Great choice on a hat from Art.

I second the warning... Most hats will pale in comparison

to a Art Fawcett custom.

Enjoy!!!

"Natural". It goes with just about anything.

My second favorite color Art offers is "Mojave". To call it white would be to do it a disservice.

I recently received a Route 66 . . .

In "blue smoke". Gorgeous color . . . a true blue-grey.
And Mr. Fawcett's hats are always . . . ALWAYS . . . first rate as far as quality and style.

uh-oh ... additional suggestions to consider ... confusion mounting :)

i'm kidding. i appreciate all suggestions. it is certainly possible that a color i was not initially considering might end up being the best.

as far as the wardrobe ... my overcoats are camel, navy, and khaki. casual coats are dark olive, black leather, and navy. i almost never wear a suit or sport coat.

i like that hickory wonder. i was thinking of a broader band, and maybe trim around the brim depending on the color.
