I think it is a 1950-60's mackinaw, but I would really like any details regarding the maker. the photo grabs are from The Lucy Show in the 1960's. Mister Moony has very nice taste. plaid coat 2.jpg plaid coat.jpg plaid coat1.jpg

That windward is mine. This one has more of a 50s cut. Pattern of the plaid looks like a Jack Frost I had a while back, bu there were so many makers of these, and so many stores putting their labels in (Sears, Montgomery ward, penneys, etc.) that it's impossible to nail it down with any certainty.

thank you for the reply. I really like the styling of this coat. Some have a western back, but this one is the plain style. I see that Montgomery Wards was probably the maker. Sometimes department stores can put out quality items.

Here are a lot more examples: http://thefedoralounge.com/threads/the-fedora-lounge-guide-to-mackinaw-coats.71997/

Like I say, it's near impossible to tell from an outside shot who the maker was on these, there were so many companies. It may be a Wards, but it's just as likely for it to be one of 20+ other makers. A label's the only way to know- the detailing wasn't distinctive enough from one maker to the next (especially on the '50s ones) to be positive, and many sourced from the same woolen mills. Also keep in mind that Montgomery Ward wasn't a maker, they were just a retailer who put their label in the product of coats made by jobbers.
