Hello. I have a bowler with this Stetson Logo (no beaver in it) from Phildadelphia. Anyone have any idea on the date of this logo? It has MCMXV which is 1915, but does anyone know if they used that after 1915?
The Pan Pacific International Exposition was in San Francisco in 1915 and in 1939. Your roman numerals say is is 1915. So anytime after that and before 1939 would be a good guess for me. Stetson always touted its awards of merit when possible.
Snyder's Stetson book has some logos in it,
but he doesn't tie them to dates. He appears to
be reproducing logos from the collection of someone
named Gregory S. Ng.
I would love to see someone with old catalogs
help with dating some of these old Stetson logos.
I've asked Besdor for some help with dating my
Clear Nutria hat since he says he has some old
catalogs, but haven't heard back yet.
Duane , your bowler is from around WW I circa 1920. This was the peak time when these hats were in fashion , before the fedora as we know it became popular . Many still survive because of the stiffness of the hat unlike the snap brim hats of their day that were as soft as butter .
