Doesn't strike me that more jewelry is really a good solution in an active/outdoors environment. If it's too warm to be wearing a sweater, tucking it into the shirt is the solution.

On Michigan Avenue, however, I'd agree with you on the tie bar.

I'd agree with Dave here; a camp shirt with a tie sounds like a good place to imitate army fashion with the tie-tuck other posts have mentioned.

Can't there be more than one solution? [huh]

I prefer this little doodad, very stealth and it doesn't harm my ties.

Workwear shirts with ties

Some shirts like that are essentially uniform shirts and in the past WWII the US Army wore ties with the uniform shirt. So I'd say it is probably do-able.

Any links to pics of army shirts with knit ties?

Ok, so I don't know how period authentic you want to go, but knit ties like that are more commonly associated with the 1950's. Of course they had knit ties in the 1930's, but they would have looked, well, different.

Any links to pics of period 1930s knit ties? How are mine 1950s style? (I'm into the 30s look, not 50s).

I wear my workwear/ military styled shirts with ties. Why? Because I like wearing a tie, and I like having the flapped pocket for my watch.

Dinerman, I love your style. I guess I'm not that original after all. Do you happen to know if that brown shirt is still available? Is the tie a period item?

Linen workwear shirt with tie

Here's one of my recent acquisitions from J Crew: a linen workwear (they call it "camp") shirt with cargo-style pockets, shoulder loops (what's the official name for these?), and the button on the outside of your sleeve so you can keep your sleeves rolled up (see pic).

Do you think this shirt works with the tie I'm wearing in the pic? If not, which tie would suit it best? (Tie is also a J Crew item. As you can tell, I am a J Crew shopper).

The only thing I wish J Crew would get right on these shirts is the collar. Alas, they are never the 30s style long point drapy collar.
