Buttoned winter jacket draft?

So, very soon i am going to Scotland, to visit Aero Leathers and finally get myself one of their jackets.

I have a couple ideas in mind, but am still somewhat undecided.

My question is, does it make sens to spec out a Maxwell as a winter coat (Strome lining and storm cuffs), are the buttons enough to prevent draft from getting in?
I have 2 buttoned wool coats (peacoat and greatcoat), but they have lapels that overlap enough to prevent draft. The Maxwell on the other hands has lapels that barely overlap.
Would a Maxwell be somewhat airtight in the front once closed? Or should i go for something with a zipper?

Most of my jackets are buttoned and I've never noticed a draught, so I'd say don't worry about it.

Personally I would not consider adding storm cuffs to the button cuffs on my Maxwell, Mulligan, or even my Teamster. If it's that cold, I use gloves. Aero's strome lining might be a worthwhile consideration for a Teamster but personally wouldn't consider it for a shorter length jacket such as a Maxwell. That's just me though.

I hadn't thought about the cuff situation... It would indeed be weird to have buttoned cuffs and storm cuffs, not even sure it's possible!

I suspect it's not possible. I have speced my teamster as a winter coat, with storm cuffs. The final order has the finished leather as with the highwayman.

I have an Aero Barnstormer which obviously has buttons, never had a prob with breezes, although admittedly the double-breasted nature of a Barnstormer means that there's a lot more leather to overlap.

Actually I've been putting it off for months but I think I'm going to have to put my beloved Barnie up in the sale pages. I've beefed up a bit in the shoulders and sadly the old girl is on the too tight side now. I keep trying to convince myself that it's OK but if I'm honest I'm kidding myself. One of the horrible things is when a jacket you loved/love just won't fit you properly anymore

Carlos it really depends on what winters are like where your from. When the temps dip into single digits pullout the Irving or other shearling lined jacket. I'll wear my Aeros down till slightly below freezing with a sweater underneath as long as I don't plan on being outside a long time.

I did recently see storm cuffs under standard button cuffs, it looked extremely well done. I'll have to find the picture I can't remember who was the maker.

Is the strome warmer than the alpaca? I can't wait for the cold weather when I can get some use out of my alpaca lined long Hercules. It's so damn comfortable to wear.

When I had my Teamster made I was advised that It was not possible to add the storm cuffs due to the many layers of materials could cause a problem during sewing.

Yeah, i know, it doesn't really get that cold around here, and i already have a B3 that i am unable to wear because of that.
I would like a jacket for the 5c (40F) area, i am ok with my cotton lined ones around 10c (50F), but as it goes closer to freezing i which i had a jacket with a warmer lining, but not as extreme as the B3.

Carlos I think there is a Filson store in London where you might access a moleskin vest that is perfect for layering underneath in temperatures you describe without adding undue bulk.

Thanks Fanch, i have already tried these on and they just don't work on me, far to straight for me, they end up very baggy at the waist because of my V shape.

Also, it's much more fun to get an Aero jacket!

They may have jackets with corduroy or moleskin linings that you can try out....sounds like a good trip

Have you tried the much slimmer "Seattle Fit?"
