"But I'm content with my life."

I live in an 1968s apartment block with 7x6 "parties".

I grew up in entrance 6, top floor, from age 6 on. Now, I live in entrance 2, top floor, where I have my peace. Only MY place for hang up clothing above me on the attic. And I also still have the probably most peaceful house entrance.
I mean "as yet", as long the old folks below me (He, 88/89, was classmate of my Grandma) and next to my living room (in late 80s, too) are still there.

Every day, I'm thankful for that, I tell you! :)

An „old“ and good colleague died last Sunday from a heart attack, at the age of 38.
Thinking back how many friends I outlived meanwhile just in my late 50’s, some sandbox-pals included, I’m content with my life though all that sh.t that happened over the years and that is still to come.

At some point almost every day I am reminded of how many of my contemporaries have died, and with it a reminder of my own mortality.
Many of those departed lived far more healthily than I did, yet I suffer no survivor’s guilt. I’m not to blame for their bad luck, just as I claim no credit for my good luck. Virtue had nothing to do with it.

I hope for many more years, and I’ve made some provision for such an eventuality, but I’d caution others against betting on it. My seeing a truly advanced age will involve the best modern medicine has to give. And luck.

I was maybe 20 feet removed from a serious car wreck yesterday afternoon. I was lucky. The woman in the car ahead of me wasn’t. (She’ll be okay. She was only kinda unlucky.)

Ah, there's another thing.
Back in early 2019, I was in hospital for a couple weeks. And I'm still so thankful and always will be, that this happened a while BEFORE Covid! I will never forget that. :)

Picked up my brother in law from hospital yesterday.
He suffered from esophagus cancer earlier this year and had to run a neo-adjuvantive chemo plus major surgery and just began to recover very slightly from that.
Last Sunday he went to emergency admission of „his“ hospital and had been checked up intensively.
Result was that he developed a huge metastasis in his throat and he was informed respectively right before I picked him up, watched him talking to his doc.
I drove him home and didn’t hear anything from him anymore.
Today afternoon I suddenly heard the seven liter engine of his C3 Corvette firing up, soon after I saw him driving down our common driveway, leaving for an extended ride.

Last weekend he returned from hospital he had to stay at for some complicantions. He‘s also been staged and there have been several new tumors found all over his body. After meeting his oncologist he decided not to go through another round of chemo with questionable results as he‘s in relative good shape this point and will spend his remaining time travelling and have a halfway comfotable time instead, visiting his son in USA for a last time…

That's tough, I'm very sorry to hear that. At the point he's at, though, I would have made the same choice as he did. Godspeed.
