I'm sorry to hear of your loss

Dogs have been the constant companions of humanity share a special bond that goes beyond words.

Please don't feel bad that you feel bad, and take your time getting over it.

Thanks folks for all your kind words. It's better today than yesterday and it'll be better tomorrow. Bucky is eternally young in memory as I'm certain all well-loved companions are. Those were glorious days and we were priviledged to share them with him.

Don't know--it was kinda fun while it lasted, but I'm not sure how long unnamed parties' "humor deficiency" will step out of the way, us guys (yes, even sociopathic ol' me!) being guys and all (and how far that nature can be kept in check)... also depends on my day--I might be on just a little bit, later in the evening--I'm crashing a party with a bunch of SR-71 air- and groundcrew in about 10-12 hours. (Oh well, if I can't be a Habu myself and earn the Mach 3+ patch, at least I can hang with 'em for a bit...)

EDIT: I'm not ditching FL, I was there last time these guys were in Seattle--I'd be ditching them in doing otherwise.

Carter, I'm sorry to be coming into this thread so late but I also want to offer my sympathies as to your loss. As you know, we share more than the love of hats and golden era, this being just one more. I find myself smiling occasionally at the sudden thoughts of past companions that flash through my brain, leaving me with a warm sense, just for having them been part of my life. I wish those thoughts for you sooner rather than later.

Thanks Art. I haven't looked at this thread recently because it made me so darn sad the first few times I did.
Now it's becoming more as you describe. At the oddest moment I'll see Bucky sitting in the sun, tongue hanging out, ears up, and eyes sparkling. I can't tell if he's laughing at me or just wants to play. :)

Thanks Spitfire. Animals are certainly more accepting aren't they. I have a plaque hanging in the house that says, "I'm just trying to be the man my dog thinks I am."

Amen to that. :)

Aussies

Carter, I just found this post and had to reply. Bucky sounds like a wonderful dog. I have a blue merle now who is the finest of several fine dogs who have shared my home. Much of what you wrote about Bucky reminded me of her. Aussies are supposed to be aloof with strangers but someone forgot to tell Bucky and my Bran. It's so hard when they go. :(
