Thanks Rusty, I had a great day. Mike and Rocky did a LOT of work Saturday, going start to finish on two for me, and one for a gentleman from Mississippi. When I say Start to Finish, all three were hat blanks when we started. He also did a little work fixing other hats during the day.

True, and it was the day before Easter, even though it was a great day, Downtown Covington wasn't all that busy. Planned it that way.

A recent acquisition from a fellow lounger. A 60's era 7X. He had taken the original ribbon off, and put on a wide one. I thought I'd put the original back on, but the fading over time left it looking stripped! So I made a quick run to Buckaroo Hatters Saturday, and Rocky was good enough to find a nice ribbon and attach it for me. And I think, he did a great job. Thanks Rocky. You can still see a bit of the fading, but I don't think enough to distract too badly. It wears good and that's all I really care about. There's not a lot that can be done to me look better anyway!!

Hi Y'all, we did it again. I drove over to Covington with a friend of mine who grew up in Holcomb and Kennett Missouri over in the Bool Heel. I worked out a couple of hats with Mike ahead of time, and brought a shipping box for hats with us for Dan's hat in case it took longer. I was wanting a dark grey western style dress hat with about a 5 to 6 inch crown and a 4 inch brim. Mike had both a dark grey and a steel gray body blocked in my size and sanded down ready to go. I the steel gray and matched the ribbon and brim binding to the hat. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

The second hat was more "special". I found a pair of pictures of the same group of vigilantes in two different places. The picture in Time Life Books shows them with the hats tilted up so you can see their faces. The other picture has the brims down. I picked this style hat cause the dude looks absolutely nuts. It will make a great shooting hat. I have a pair of brown pants and a shirt to match and I'll take pictures then.

Hi, I went out and had a friend of mine take a few pictures of my rendition of Will Armstrong. I'm sure he was a great guy but the grin made him look just plain old DIRTY. Note that I managed to get a full set of mismatched brown stuff to wear.

The third pic and the first are the same, but the last one shows the hat better. The flip in front allows me to get to the Baldwin Vernier sights on my Sharps, and my 1892.

I also picked up a Gray Dress hat, It was mostly ready when I showed up.

I'm sure the Gray one will get more wear around town, but I'll swap the Dirty Brown one and the Rough Rider hat at the range.

I'm sorry to note that Erwin's Steak House in Covington closed, they had great food. We ate at Wyatt Earp's that used to be Marlow's for dinner, it was a good steakhouse. We had the breakfast buffet at Billing's Bald Butcher, but I was a good boy and didn't stuff myself. For those of you driving to Buckaroo Hatter from the North, I suggest Strawberry's BBQ in Holcomb Missouri.

Very Nice Hat . Whats in your holsters ? Is that the Steel Gray or Dark Gray ?

Hi, the Gray hat is Steel Gray, I like it a lot. I have a couple of Uberti Schofields in .45 LC, but I shoot 45 Schofield in them. I shoot Grand Army of the Frontier at this point using the Schofield and a Krag Rifle. My plan is to start shooting NCOWS North of Dallas, forget the name of the club. I may shoot at OKC gun club too, but they're SASS and they all shoot very light loads.

He was probably just a vigilante. There is no entry for William or Will Armstrong in Nash's Encyclopedia of Western Lawman & Outlaws.

Exactly, he's in "The Gunfighters" in the Time Life books in a two page picture with bunch of guys. The picture I posted is from a different book, same group but with hats down like normally worn. The time life picture is all with the hats up so you can see their faces. He was a Vigilante, the whole bunch in the picture of 42 total were.

Dave Mather had a long, narrow nose with sort of a hook at the bottom. I thought Armstrong looked like he did too. In the few pics there are of Mather he usually wore a hat with the brim turned down all the way around.

Watched "Angel and the Badman" recently, and thought Harry Carey's hat was kinda cool. Decided I needed one similar. Drove down to Covington on Saturday. Mike & Rocky fixed me right up! Thanks guys for a great hat.

I like that style bow as well. It's funny tho, it looks really good on some hats, but not others. Go figure. I think it came out ok on this one. And thanks.
