When I saw "Animal House" after I got out of college, I thought it was a documentary of our PR fraternity.

Unfortunately I believe " Animal House " could document most fraternities of the 1960's mine included. We even had the old delapidated house. How it survived the smoking of the time I really don't know. I did claim a bedroom on the third floor that had it's own fire escape. I do have to comment on the Jim Beam discussion above as it is still a good decent bourbon. I like Makers and Jack Daniels ( owned by a Ky. company ) but Jim Beam brands and their black label are very good. Costco sold an excellent bourbon with their house brand name a couple years ago that was actually Jim Beam black label. Jim Beam had it to sell and made a deal with Costco. Great bourbon at a great price but with the Costco housebrand. The best price ever for a good bourbon. Unfortunately they are no longer selling black label. I don't care as much for Four Roses or Wild Turkey taste, but that is just personal choice. There are still some decent bourbons out there at good prices. Don't be afraid to try some different brands. You might be surprised.

I'm a fan of Buffalo Trace. I was able to pick up a Large bottle (1.75L) at Costco for ~$35 after the holidays. Last year I was able to pick up a bottle of Knob creek for similar price point. If cost is an issue, Evan Williams is a reasonable low cost alternative. Cheers

Just tried Red Stag for the first time, probably will be the last. It was a Christmas present this year and had never even heard of it. Jim Beam flavored with honey,cherry,ect. Not really my cup of tea or bourbon!

It makes a really good white elephant gift...

I have recently (4 or 5 months ago) discovered Angels' Envy. In addition to the bourbon, they also do a couple of runs a year of a finished rye, which is quite good. At my store it usually sells out within a week of hitting the shelves.

I suppose in regard to the first part of this question is Why? I personally don't see the point as I assume quality Bourbon is readily available. I am A Scotch drinker, but the difference between a good and bad Scotch is huge. You could blend it by why bother. A Gentleman is judged by the quality, not quantity of his liquor cabinet. Frankly I'd die of thirst before imbibing a cheap Scotch. I'd think it should be the same with a Bourbon drinker.

So. I'm sipping 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle now.

I have 2 bottles of Pappy 15 year old in the closet waiting. If someone were to offer me the right price I may let them go since I'm mostly a Scotch Single malt guy now.

Interesting Thread and comments on Bourbon. I am an infrequent drinker so I do not have vast experience on the subject but I know what I like and I like to have a Manhatten. Many bartenders these days have no idea how to mix a Manhatten as they seem to forget about the bitters. When I go into a bar I like to see which Bourbons they have in stock and get an idea of the quality of the establishment. My preference is Bookers which is bottled by the Jim Beam distillery. Absent the Bookers I will go with Maker's Mark or Knob Creek. If one of these 3 is not in stock I will go to another bar.

Bookers is "Hot." If I were to choose a case of bourbon to be ship wrecked with it would be Bookers. It base more shunshine per bottle.
