Given that it's a Borsalino, I am assuming that the size 6 is "Punti sizing" and not standard American sizing. The 6 would translate into 7 3/8. I bought two vintage Borsalinos on E bay that only had Punti sizing. My Punti size is 5, my standard American size is 7 1/8. The Punti sizing chart worked perfectly well.

Wait, that is Europe sized. Thought you meant American sized. (I guess "Borsilino" shudda been my hint! LOL)

There is also a mark on the inside of the sweatband that is 6 1/2
