Usually I would not dive into the world of Wool hats, but I find it very interesting how many differences there are between making a fur felt hat and making a wool felt hat. I was on the Stetson/Resistol tour and have watched other films about hat making and it seems that there are steps/differences used in making a wool hat that are not done in making a a fur hat. Check out how they make a wool felt cone verses a fur felt cone. The amount of machines and times used in the actual felting process varies quite a bit.

The MOST interesting thing about this tour is during the span of 46:24 to 46:54, you can actually see a Singer 46-101 unreeded sweatband machine in use. It appears that Bollman still uses this machine to sew in grosgrain sweatbands in hats.

Josh, This is a very detailed video (I believe Manfred posted it couple weeks ago). Better than the videos I have seen on fur felt production. I wish I could have made a video of my TONAK visit.

Although the CEO of the company did not press it, he did mention at 9:11 of the vid that they do make fur felt hats in addition

to their wool based offerings.

They do have some fur felt models but I don't believe they make their own fur felt bodies.

Bollman does make fur felt but it is a fraction of the production . We used to buy many of their fur felts but they are concentrating on the wools. They make the best wool hats today.

Are they working from fur pelts or buying processed fur? I have seen Velour hats they are supplying and those bodies were most likely sourced from TONAK.
