It was indeed a great scene, and I'm sure I'll enjoy watching it again and again. But then, I liked Clarence the angel in "It's a Wonderful Life," too, but I doubt I'll be bumping into him down at the neighborhood bar.

Well coming from this guy that just watched a bunch of Tex Ritter movies, I can live with that.

Clarence is a classic character. Nothing wrong with liking him. :clap:

After calling my boyfriend a barbarian for his vocal viewing of the 49ers v. the guys in blue and yellow uniforms - "^#^$% 49ers!" "How could they miss that #&*% goal!?!" - we settled in later to watch "Boardwalk Empire." Always the refined lady, when Richard walked purposefully into the bordello, I yelled, "Yeah! He's so cool! Go Richard!.... uh oh... that guy's got the gun on the kid... Shoot. Him. Now. C'mon Richard. Don't put down you gun... oh kapow! He's awesome!" I can't believe how much I enjoyed Richard's revenge and rescue of Tommy.

And I'm surprised to admit I had just the teensiest bit of pity for Gillian there at the end. They finished this season well and wrapped up a lot of lose ends. Looking forward to next season.

Yes indeed. That reminder of Nucky's contribution to the development of the fine woman Gillian grew up to be was quite fitting. Nucky arranged her introduction to the Commodore when she was, what?, 14? And he killed her son. Much as Jimmy left him with little choice, he still killed him, and Gillian knows that, even if she doesn't know that.

So, for next season, we have Masseria and Rothstein both feeling somewhat less than friendly toward Nucky. And we can only guess what sort of treachery our friend Gillian will be up to. Will Nucky figure out it was Gillian who tipped Rosetti to the meeting at Babette's that never quite happened, the meeting where Nucky and Rothstein would have both met their ends had the timing been just slighty better?

And I'm hoping that the writers give more than a bit of play to the club Chalky will open in that spot "where Babette's used to was."

With next season starting one year later, I wonder if Gillian will even be a part of the story.

Gives me an idea there, Rusty. Maybe we could do a mashup -- "Boardwalk Empire" meets "It's a Wonderful Life." Call it "It's a Wonderful Bloodbath."

Basic storyline could be how if not for Nucky Thompson surviving into middle age and beyond, Atlantic City would have become some pleasant, nondescript smallish city no one from anywhere but there ever paid much nevermind. You know, a nice, wholesome place to raise a family in safety and security, a place where folks go to bed early and never lock their doors, a place where the entire teetotaling citizenry live long lives with no more openings in their bodies than they were born with and eventually die of boredom.

Horrors.

Yep it was a great finale. I agree Mark, Mr. Harrow was/is the real deal. I actually liked the scene at this girlfriends house VERY much. It was good to see Harrow reconcile with her Father. "You don't come home like this." I think the ole man'll go to bat for him now and they'll wind up married.

Gillian's either dead or a stone Junkie now. She'll be Nucky's guilty responsibility until he finds out she set him up, then she'll follow her son to the grave.

Gyp got what he deserved a knife in the back from a confederate. He was a mad dog, as likely to bite friend or foe. A man who pistol whipped a priest while robbing the church. A better fate? Are you chittin' me? What he go was too good fer him.

I too wanted to find out what wazzup with former agent Alden. That wasn't fair. Happy to see Mrs. Thompson gone. Her whinging and hand wringing was getting on my nerves. Like Carmella in "The Sopranos"... stop whining already, you're the wife of a violent/evil man, you've blood on YOUR hands too... quit yer bitchin' fer goodness sake!

Really enjoyed the whole season and already am impatient to see the season (yes..a whole year to wait). Many thanks to Ed for his kindness in helping me out with seeing this most recent series. Helping members out is when TFL is working at its' finest - so thanks Ed.

PS - I was gutted to see Owen (the man from Coleraine who sadly hadn't cracked that northern Irish accent, I 'should' know) written out. I really felt there was more mileage left for him as a character. Agreed with 'the boys' here that Richard is a class act who deserves to be happy in love.

It seems like Richard's goal was really to find a happy home for Tommy, since he probably does feel unworthy of a relationship for himself. I wouldn't be surprised that when next season picks up, he'll already have assumed Owen's role as Nucky's right hand man.

Clearly Nucky was impressed with whomever wiped out all of Rosetti's thugs. We'll just have to wait and see if Richard will find out if it was Nucky that killed Jimmy. Well there ya go, I just predicted next season's finale!

True but who survives season four after Richard learns Nucky killed Jimmy?

I assumed that Richard knew that Nucky had killed Jimmy, but understood that it was just business: That Jimmy was simply a soldier on the losing side who understood the risks of his position, and realized that he had crossed a line with Nucky where no other ending was possible. Alternatively, Angela - whom Richard clearly loved - was just senseless collateral damage that had orphaned little Tommy for no good reason, and he killed Munya for vengeance.

I agree that Richard (if he stays on the show) will be working with Nucky next season, but not as a right-hand man like Owen. He simply doesn't have the people skills or underworld acumen for it. But as an enforcer, he'd be peerless. We're talking serious, Luca Brasi levels of intimidation and cold, efficient terminations.

(And apparently, I'm one of the few fans here who still really likes Margaret - despite her not having a decent plot since the first season. I'm still hoping they'll do something interesting with her again.)

People skills with a face like that aren't easy to develop.
He would indeed be a peerless enforcer though. A definite War Consigliere in a sense.
