Wondering what opinions might be of this Combo. This is a Stetson 7X Clear Beaver of early 1960's that has a stingy(for Western)2-3/8" brim. Just acquired the hatband(needs some work and adjustments and backing) which is merely placed on the hat for suggestion.
Do you think this was the original brim width?

Great hat...

I'm curious why you call it a "western?" Or is it a western look you are going for? Well, duh, hard to be other than a western look with the beaded band. I like the idea of a beaded band, but I think you need a more "western" crease/bash. Maybe even on open crown, or a Montana Peak, or an Oreana bash. Right now it looks like a homberg with a loud band. Clashes, to my eye.

7x clear beaver? Never seen one in anything but a natural beaver color. I'd love to see the sweatband, see how old that one is.

The crown is definitely Western, a Cattleman with tapered sides. This hat came in a battered Stetson 100 Box. Its really a true black, unfortunately the camera wasn't compensating for the tungsten light source.
