Black London Fog trench coat with this hat, what do you guys think?

Is it a true (i.e. double-breasted and belted) trench-coat, or a single-breasted raincoat? In my view, a cap only goes well with the latter.

Hmm it's raining here in Toronto. When I was wearing my trench, I looked like a boss =D. Also, black tends to show a bit more dirt then other colors.

I feel like buying both would be a waste. If I could only choose 1, which one should I get? The thing is, With the Ushanka, I can only wear it during the winter months. But with he cap, I can wear it for during fall, winter, and spring monthes. Also, do you think I can wear my cap during the spring months? Would it be to warm or something... I don't know. And today is the 100th aniversary of the 1st world war.

I had a wool GDR ushanka back in the '90's. Very warm.
With a raincoat? I don't know.
I would go for a Homburg, or a trilby. But then, I would avoid trench coats in black.

I'd avoid a black trench too. I think how each hat option looks will depend on where you live, your height and build and the colours you choose. Over here a black trench and a ushanka will just look wrong. In Toronto different story.

I agree totally. Over here, black raincoats/trench coats are office wear uniform for salary men, which is why I would never touch one.
In London (20 years ago at least) it would have marked you out as a goth.
I've generally avoided black clothing since The Matrix, because I just felt there was too much baggage going with it.

Yeah, that Matrix and Goth connection still put me off that look. Maybe it would help if the trench were navy and a vintage and/or more prestigious make? If the coat is already owned then that limits the options.

True, there are 3 months of winter =D. With your felt fedoras, do they serve a useful function during the fall and spring months? Do they keep you warm or are they mainly for fashion?

I just think it's the color. A black trench coat seems strange to me (unless you really are a mafia don who could have some one kill me with a snap of your fingers).
Like I said, I look at the office workers wearing them to work in the same way that Harry Lime looks down from the ferris wheel on the people below, and sees them as dehumanized 'ants'.
With an ushanka? I don't really get what the aspired to look is. Ushankas are for really cold weather, and that's fine if that's what Toronto has, but then wouldn't a trench coat not be warm enough? Ushankas were originally worn by the Red Army with 3/4 length sheepskin coats.
This is why I think that if you're wearing a trench coat, a homburg or a fedora would be a better choice style-wise. They 'match' for period and climate.

If I'm going to work on a wet or snowy winter's day, I wear a grey Penman fedora and a khaki WPG trench coat. Mainly because I hate holding umbrellas. But I, would never wear the hat or the coat without a suit. If I'm just sitting outside the cafe smoking a cigar in winter I'd wear jeans, boots, a t-shirt, and my Aero B-3 with one of those sheepskin caps (B-6 or whatever they're called).

Actually fedoras are very versatile. I wear them for the cold in winter and in the blazing Australian 115 F degree sun. Never wore them to be fashionable and mine are often ragged and stained which I don't mind. I started wearing them 30 odd years ago because I got burned in summer without one. Recently it's been around 37 F degrees in the morning with wind chill. A fedora does okay in that around here. But every story is different.

Oh, I forgot about this thread. Well I did buy the coat a few month's ago. It is 100% polyester and pretty light in fabric. I look very intimidating in it and so far it has been a good investment. I'll post you guys pics later, I'm tired lol.
