Guys come on. Sometimes you have to cancel a deal. And to keep all that money is for me still a theft. Here or on Instagram.
But I know who do Deal not with, here or on IG.

Everybody should make their own thoughts and now a behavior is shown.
The boots are not lost. They can still be sold. They will also be sold as the brown are more rare. They were gone at BSW in a second.
But we might see a big discount and fast sell now.

I couldn't believe my eyes reading these posts here. Knakorn did recently sell his FW Mulholland jacket to me - payment was done via PayPal family + friends and he shipped the jacket the same day and the condition of the jacket was better than expected.

As there is obviously one person's word against another's in this case as we don't know the whole/true? story/background, I would recommend Knakorn to return Ole's payment (maybe retain a certain amount for efforts and expenses incurred) in order to maintain Knakorn's good reputation as excellent and honest seller here. I'm sure you will soon find a buyer for your boots.

If it's really the case that large and unexpected expenses showed up for Ole, then Knakorn probably should believe him as Ole is Gentleman and trusted member here. I think it's just not worth the efforts damaging the reputation of two well-known members here (I would still sell and buy from/to them). If Knakorn did re-invest the $450 in the meantime, Ole in turn should allow Knakorn some time for making the reimbursement - this would be fair enough IMO.

Similar things happened to me (maybe to many of us) in the past and life's too short to bother too much about it.

After setlling this (should be very easy) everyone has learned his own lesson and everyone should hopefully be fine.

I fail to understand how I am being turned into the bad guy here. We made a deal and the buyer has reneged on his part of the transaction. It really is as simple as that. I'm more than happy to show everyone here the screenshots if you want. I think I'm more than fair in this case. I keep the boots for him for a month already. I agreed to return some of the downpayment if there is a buyer within the time period that we agreed on which is the end of November. I also extended the due date to the end of this month. I have lost at least 4 potentials buyers which already got theirs stuff already so they wont be buying. Its a 2k product and he is not true to his words and I'm not the person who come up with $450 downpayment, he was the one who offer that amount and I have all evidence to support that. BTW his large expense was the Brown Freewheeers Mulholland that he bought from a another member here (Nov 5) a day after he placed the downpayment which is irresponsible in his part. I don't believe its my false that he chose to catch another rabbit and forfeit this one.

100% Agree with @JMax. And if you absolutely have to go the deposit route, agree beforehand on its refundability. $450 is a chunk of change, and sending it without mutual understanding of terms is not prudent.

For the people at the back of the class - a deposit is used as a downpayment so the seller keeps the goods for an agreed time to allow the buyer to pay. If the buyer changes their mind or can't make the balance of payment, then the deposit is forfeit. This is normal practice in any business or transaction. Why is this so hard to understand? For those that disagree, please enlighten me as to what you think a deposit is, or is used for? What is the point of keeping an item for a person who may just change their mind and expect no consequence?

I understand both sides. Thing is, I believe that the TFL crew intended any business done thru Classifieds to be conducted in friendly, casual and fun manner - Yeah, hardly possible the moment any amount of money gets involved, I know, but I personally don't think @Knakorn Piulueangsawat should've kept the down-payment from a sale made on this particular place.
If it was a service of a sort, like eBay, Grailed, etc.; Sure. Perhaps. But here... Just not in the spirit of this place. Again, perhaps I'm being naive and silly but. . .

Especially if someone had told me they're having financial issues at the moment. There's just no possible way I would've kept the money.

But I don't make a living out of selling clothes. Perhaps you do, @Knakorn Piulueangsawat. Dunno.

On the other hand, @Knakorn Piulueangsawat, I understand that keeping the boots reserved made you miss out on a number of potential sales but this could've easily been avoided if you simply told Ole to either buy the boots right now or you'll sell them to another person and if indeed you could have sold the boots this quickly, I don't see any particular reason for you to keep the money, other than strictly on principle.

And it's really the principle it all boils down to, doesn't it?
Thing is, you chose to keep the money. There wasn't any other, practical reason for keeping it other than your own decision to do so and while we could discuss definitions & business practices for all eternity, we could just call it what it is; Your choice to keep the money.

And again, if that's your livelihood on the line we're talking about here, then I guess it's cool if you're cool with it. But if it's just a hobby. . .

From the peanut gallery (and the back of the class) - good point, @Monitor. If it is a business, then perhaps @knakorn should register here as a vendor. Then there would be no expectations of benevolence or whatever. You have people on this forum routinely giving jackets away for free, and I think it builds expectations that everyone is kind like that. I think Ole expressed a bit of that in his original post.

And please don't get me wrong; As I stated, I understand your principle. It's not what I would've done but I don't think you're a bad guy here. At the end of the day, you kept to your end of the bargain and that is the only relevant fact in this whole deal - Same as Ole absolutely must've understood that by depositing a down-payment under certain rules that he agreed upon, his money was potentially forfeit.

The $450 did buy him a particular service in this case, one which was a guarantee that the item will be on hold for him until complete payment has been made.
There's no debate there.
