This is how it came to me:

With new ribbon, original crease:

Tightened up the crease a bit and added a little curl to the brim:

I still think it looks a little boxy on me. I think I'd like to try something with a little taper in the crown.

Try a straight center dent with the back slightly lower . Then lengthen the front pinches to the back and bring them down towards the band more. This ought to add some taper to it. Less "Raider" look . Nice hat :)

Thanks monbla. I'm not the most creative thinker in the room and having trouble visualizing it! I've seen centerdents in various configurations but don't think I've seen one with pinches all the way back other than the OR/Cattleman type crease. I'll look around on the 'Net and see what I can come up with but if you stumble across a pic of what you're describing I'd appreciate a link. You got it right though, I'd like to get away from the Raider look .........and come up with something somewhere between western and classic fedora.

Didn't realize the links to my pictures didn't work earlier, I've got them up now.

Jim,
In your first pic of the hat as it came to you, the front pinch is wider at the front and the pinches stop just short of the bow knot. I always get my center dent set first to get the fore/aft rake that I want. I let that set up for a day after steaming it good, THEN I begin to work on the front pinches and if you want to loose the "Raider" look, don't pinch 'em as close together in the front and smooth 'em a bit PAST the band bow and steam all good and let it set another day. Then wear it in a good soaking rain and it will be yours :) Keep at it. you'll get it. Here's a pic of my Squatter I have done this way:

Isn't the dent on yours a little wider in the back? That's a good look.

Yep, it's a Miller/Biltmore, I'm sure it's designed to be an OR knockoff. Back in the 60's and/or 70's the Texas DPS hat was a Stetson that looked identical to the OR except it had a raw brim and they wore 'em curled up on the sides rancher style. A gal gave me one that had belonged to her ex and I shaped the brim on it almost Homburg style but not quite so much curl on the edge. I loved that hat and got tons of compliments on it. I don't remember exactly what happened to it, I wore it on stage in Texas honky-tonks for a long time and it got trashed somehow. I may try that crease on my brown hat, I don't know the measurements, I think it has a taller crown than the OR, but it might work if I can get it right. Thanks again for your help.
