Beware All, I have just returned this ePrey hat to the seller due to inadequate description.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/260950469238?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Though he cites "small, scattered moth marks visible only up close. One of the more prominent moth pecks is shown" the reality is there is NOT 1 square inch of clear felt on the hat; it looks like a LUNAR surface model. He has agreed to take it back; but I'm sure there were some from here bidding on this, and you might try again. DON'T.

Otherwise, the hat is beautiful and clean. He is suggests that it be used for a costumer or stage prop, and I should have believed him. It may have been XXXXXXX; Now, it's about XX.

That's a shame. I was watching that one because it was running on eBay the same time as my 7XCB. It looked pretty good in the auction pics.

I had to return a hat myself a little while ago that didn't meet the description. My seller took it back right away, I guess no-one wants to spoil their 100% feedback record.

Wow, and the price you paid was not cheap either...maybe some of those moth holes are from a "shot gun"?

Terrible, indeed. For some reason, and a bit off topic, I find it a pet peeve when people refer to Ebay as ePrey... There sure is competition but if you don't like it, (like myself for example) better to stay away, and avoid being "preyed", no?

I'd have to agree with you, Ale...Anytime you buy sight unseen, there is the risk of disappointment. But if you go back to the beginning of the ebay thread, there have been some unbelievable deals (and not just of the tiny head variety) before the competition heated up for all things fedora. But even now, I just picked up a lot of mostly 50's-60's Borsalinos, Huckels and a Stetson for an average per hat price of less than $50 each. Like someone said; "Instant Collection" and it wouldn't of happened w/o ebay. The hours I would of had to spend crawling antique stores, yard sales and flea markets in the hopes of coming up with those hats individually....well, I just wouldn't

I have been very lucky with all the eBay transactions my Wife has done for me, she normally gets into a ongoing conversation within the messages part of the eBay far before she gets any bidding ongoing, she will ask the same question a few times if the question does not get asked, and if no answer, no bidding. I have one hat she purchased for me from a seller that has sold a few times already, it was a Vintage Dobbs 15, Open Road style hat, had 2 slight moth bites and the seller made that very clear, and thus no issues or sadness after the hat arrived. I think the hat here in question should have been investigated a bit more, and sadly, the issue of actually bidding only brought TipTop a bit of a let down after winning it. I do so hope you will be able to get a refund, and oh yes, thank you for warning us all about it. That input can only help others from having this problem surface with that seller.

Yes I have to agree with you as it is, most everyone that is posting about the new hats they have, the eBay victories, and such, always seem to find some rather wonderful hats, and as it is, most of those hats would not fit me, the popular sizes being smaller than my 7 3/8's or more, seems most of the greater deals are size 7, 7 1/4, and so forth. So to have any reach in the hunting department, eBay at least gives one a starting point for finding something. For my hats, and desires to have them, the hunt is not as easy as those that have a more popular size that seems to always pop up more than not. Yet the hunt for those gems, continues. I can however, see why a person may not like eBay, it can have it's drawbacks.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. I just don't understand loungers who call that particular site names like that, give it a negative connotation and yet still go there. I think that this particular auction site has given all of us nice finds and the occasional headache. I don't want to sound like a paid spokesman here, but the prey thing is not even that clever anyway[huh]

My Apologies for the off topic. I got a bit carried away. I really hope the issue you had with the hat gets rectified.

Yep eBay is fun. Some successes, some disasters - most pretty straightforward transactions with regular people.

Expressing approval, admiration & commendation to eBay!

It has both provided me with goods far beyond my prior reach it has also provided a worldwide market for my ... things.
If you look in the "show business" -what agent doesn't get 20%?

Has anyone ever added the cumulative cost charged by eBay & its' Shylock; PayPal? I'll bet it still ain't to 20%.

If scorn should be directed anywhere it's to the "pay me later" 30% interest, easy finance, wing of the organization.

Besides -eBay can be fun as hell.... still. Right?

Sorry if it doesn't meet your clever standards.

I have been using it for ~15 years, since I was moderator of a vintage watch site. And if you think you can get stung there for a hat, just think about antique Rolexes from England....as I did for quite a while after it was scanned in at Stansted, and never scanned off the FedEx plane in KY.

To each his own.

It's not about clever standards but about the other stuff mentioned on my post and those of others who followed. It's the negative, bitter connotation that the word prey carries... anyway. Not something worth arguing about, though. Each one has their own view point and we must respect it.
Also I'd never buy a Rolex off of ebay. One thing is a hat and another a watch of that type. Too much a financial risk.

The issue about buying a Rolex from eBay, yes indeed, do not do it, my Wife purchased me one, it was suppose to be new and in great condition, when it arrived, I could tell it was not going to work properly, took it to a local watch repair, they said it was far from new, had been worked on, still did not run, and would cost about $6,500.00 to repair. I got a statement from the watch repair and got a refund from the seller eventually. So, yeah, buying Rolex is not a smart choice from eBay.

I like David's summary. But I also appreciate the heads up on this particular hat, Ray. Loungers tend to sit up straight at the mention of clear beaver. Thanks for taking the time to post the warning.
