I like trying the beers that come in the can with the nitrogen set up that little ball. Guinness in the can has that set up, you may have seen it. Last time I had Boddingtons it was after having a really hoppy ale and the Boddingtons just seemed too sweet.

That's a little tasting tip. IF you are going to be trying a number of different beers at a sitting the best thing to do is to try to go from lightest in color to darkest or from lightest in body and flavor to heaviest. IF you have a strong beer and go to a weaker one your taste buds are affected and the weaker one won't taste the way it should.

My most favorite is a an honest to goodness black and tan. Heaven

One question what tan beer do you use to make it an honest to goodness one?
I have had a number of them with a variety of different beers as the tan portion. I refuse to believe that any type of lager can be used as the tan portion. I have had them done with Bass ale at a few pubs in my neck of the woods. I do like using a pale ale for the tan.

It is somewhat puzzling that the actual popularity of Guinness was built on their Porter and they stopped making it about 40 years ago. I really wish they'd consider making some as a seasonal brew or an anniversary issue. I have never had their porter it was gone before I could have one.

I am firmly in the ale camp. I love the ales from Rogue and Bell. If really pressed I will drink a Sam Adams lager.

I immediately thought of going out to some place like a restaurant and looking at the list of beer they have. I will go thru the list and make an assesment via my personal tastes of what they offer and either:
Select a favorite
Select the best of what they have to offer
Select a soft drink since the list contains nothing viable for me.

Here is an example it's hot an I crave a beer. In the past it would go like this: they have light colored lagers Becks, Saint Pauli Girl, Heineken and Corona. Some find it odd but I would choose the Corona over the other Dortmund / Export styled beers because of the malt hops balance.

These days i tend to shy away from most lagers and head for the ales. If they don't have one that is decent I will get iced tea.

Bass pale ale is my preference, but I'm fairly easy to please as long as it's not that horrid "black and tan" that comes in a can. *shudder*

I just love beer: ale, domestic, pilsener...
The best beer in The Netherlands IMHO is Gulpener beer
http://www.gulpener.nl/?v2=true
All ingrediënts are from Dutch soil, no foreign ingrediënts here. And tastes excellent.
Once every few months I go to Germany to buy about a dozen crates of different German beers.
German beer is brewed according the "Reinheitsgebot" and means that there are no chemicals in it.
Cheers,
Andy

I too prefer dark beers. There is a small private brewery in Speyer, southwest Germany - the "Domhof". Their dark beer is the best I can think of. Unfortunately you get this beer nowhere else... But I do also appreciate a dark wheat beer, icecold: yumm! I'm thirsty now...

Like Beer
Shiner Bock (and most of its variants), Stella Artois, and Asahi Super Dry are probably my top three favorites. Which one I'll have usually depends on what I'm having to eat. As far as breads go in terms of how they relate to beer, I've never taken the time to ponder the correlation, honestly. I don't consider myself enough of a connoisseur in that respect to know the ins and outs of that, but simply put, I'm not picky with breads. I like the darker breads (healthier for you) but which bread I choose for a sandwich depends entirely on what's going in between.

Relating beer and bread.

As a discussion point- because beer is made from barley (a grain) and uses yeast in brewing many people have referred to beer as "liquid bread." In the past there it was inferred, people that don't like any specialty breads or dark breads may not like any type of specialty or dark beers.

I don't drink it much anymore (swapped to wine), but when I do it's Guiness Extra Stout.
LSS, I ran around with "drinkers" in my early 20's and if I bought Budlight, they'd drink mine up.
I aquired a taste for Guiness and they didn't, and the rest is history.
I love it, but again I don't drink it much anymore.
If it's ice cold, there is nothing else like it on the planet as far as I'm concerned.

Drink beer, have watched/helped friends home brew.
I like stouts. One of my favorites is an oatmeal stout from the local micro-brewery (Lafayette Brewing Co.)
When the summer weather arrives (last week) I tend to move towards ales.
Some favorites; Guinness, Blue Moon, Smithwick's, Fat Tire...

If the beer tasts good I like it! Dark is preferable and POPULAR beers (bud/miller/coors) are pi$$water. The microbrew business is a Godsend, although I've had some that was supposed to be good but really weren't.
