The BBC are showing a 5 part drama series following the lives and loves of four girls away from home, doing their bit for Britain in the Women's Land Army.
This series jumped out of no where, it's being shown all this week on BBC 1 at 5.15pm, catch up on the BBC iplayer.
Happy viewing British chaps :)

Full of cliches about GIs and Land girls, but watchable. We got asked to be in it but the BBC were paying peanuts and wouldn't even help with accomodation!
Nice for a rainy afternoon.

Silly timeslot, 5.15pm on a weekday. Just so happens I'm home this week and have been able to watch it. Normally I'd miss it as we don't have any form of recording off TV. They are repeating it on Sunday though at 6.15 - 7pm.

From what I have been able to see (our reception makes it look like it's coming from the 1940s..), it's ok. As you say. Kitty, normal cliches.

But what I want to know is why they are always wearing floral blouses instead of proper shirts? I mean, yes, they might have worn their own occassionally, but not all the time. I've seen them wearing the aertex type shirts briefly about twice in four days!

But isn't the male actor in picture the guy who played Pilot Officer "Flash" Gordon in the TV series "Piece of Cake"?

The outfits all came from Angels apparently, they were also used in the film 'Land Girls'. From what I understand WLA members were only issued 1 blouse in the Aertex fabric-so I guess it's not unrealistic-but yes they were still far too beautifully coiffured and the 'ramshackle' farm (I chuckled when I heard Nancy refer to it as 'Cold Comfort Farm' it looked idyllic to me!)was hardly run down was it?

Ah well, I suppose if it makes people go away and actually read up on the reality....[huh]

I wanted to ask those of you who've actually watched this series, is it worth buying? I've seen it advertised and, of course, am intrigued, but is it a bit too fluffy? Should I check the library instead? Thanks!

Funny that you said that I just got the BBC catalog today and everytime I get it that is the one thing I wish to purchase but don't know enough about it to know if it would be worth buying.
So anybody out there what do you think? Do Bopeep and I purchase or not?

You can buy the series here (early release apparently):

It's worth watching. We really enjoyed it, and yes there are a few cliches, but then it was supposed to have a slight educational content too - so they cover things like illegitimate pregnancy and the segregation of black GIs. If you're a pedant with a note book, you could pick holes in it - otherwise go for it and enjoy it for what it is!

It's not bad, but if it's a classic Brits at War production, you'd be better buying the fabulour 'Housewife, 49'. Definitely NOT fluff!
