Baron Hats

I recently had my old Bates Trilby steamed and blocked at Baron's in Burbank, CA--they did an amazing job, looks like the day I bought it. Bates offered to do it for free, but you have to send it back to their shop in Jermyn Street and the postage to the U.K. alone would be more than the hat cost! I highly recommend Baron's and it is an amazing place to visit and look at their hats from old--and new--Hollywood. They also shaped a new Stetson Gun Club that I recently bought--right size, wrong shape for my head--what a difference it makes! Any Fedora Loungers fans of Barons?

Funny enough, I just came from Barons. Looking for my first Fedora and Barons is close to my office so I thought I would go in and have a look. The salesman was extraordinarily helpful. He walked me through the different styles and qualities of felt. Let me try on a bunch of different hats to see what looked best. Plus, there was no pressure as I wasn't buying today. I will definitely go back. Two thumbs up!

Yes, they are very helpful there and they certianly know a thing or two about hats. Good luck with your search--which one are you leaning towards?

I tried on a number of different hats, but the one I fell in love with is their Baron Lassic Fedora in slate/brown with a 2 1/2 inch brim. This is Baron's 200x beaver felt and it is luxurious to the touch. It also looked great on my head and framed my face nicely. The downside is the price: $350. Not that expensive for a great quality hat, but probably too much for a first hat.

Any suggestions for something similar but less expensive?

Thanks.

Jeff
