Barbour International

Well I finally did it, I decided to buy a Barbour International A7! I never got around to buying a Belstaff back in the 70s, now they are fashion wear, and priced as such! I also can't stand all the movie stars that wear Belstaff. So, when I found a new Barbour for $295 with free shipping, I thought I'd better get one before Paris Hilton. Funny, I have owned many British bikes over the years, Triumph's hands down number one, with a few Norton's and a BSA Goldstar, but never a waxed jacket. I didn't bother with the lining, if I need one, I have a long sleeve liner from a new high tech jacket add a couple of snaps and I should be plenty warm. I will post photos when I get it, wrong time of year for fast shipping!

Well, since this is another waxed cotton thread, I might as well chime in.
I recently bought a Lewis Creek Stockton Barn Jacket http://www.lewiscreek.com/ from eBay for $90.
Not to gloat or anything, but the jacket is absolutely beautiful with perfect construction.
Leather and soft moleskin details, heavy, supple waxed cotton shell, 3 interior pockets, heavy duty 2 way zipper, nice mustard color cotton lining with nylon drip panel at the bottom etc. Fit is really nice with enough room for a sweater.
I absolutely love it:)
Oh, and it's made in Scotland just like another of our favorite leather jackets!

The most useful jacket IMO

Congrats on the Barbour International. I've got one myself (Brown) and I have to say of the dozens of jackets I own, the Barbour is the one I wear the most. It's just sooo useful....

The pockets are useful to keep things safely when you travel light, and plus it is water resistant. I've got the Barbour liner too. Very warm, but does make the body appear bulky.

The only complaint I've got about it is that it doesn't have any hood option (will have to bring a hat).

I've got an International. I wear it when riding one of my old motorcycles, usually worn along with a pair of vintage Belstaff overtrousers that I was fortunate to find on eBay (I guess Barbour no longer makes matching overtrousers for the International?) I like most things about the coat, but it does need some sort of warm layer under it in colder weather.
I'm up to my ears in waxed cotton jackets (Barbour, Filson, and Kakadu), but that Lewis Creek coat above looks very interesting to me-I especially like the leather reinforcements at the cuffs and pocket edges-my old Barbour Moorland is starting to wear on the cuff edges.

Jeep, Silvermans stock the International jacket and trousers. Yep, they are still made. www.silvermans.co.uk Silvermans are anything but cheap mind you !!

I use a black International suit on my Kawasaki W650 as well as having a spare suit in the green-ish colour that was used by the British Army until they replaced it with a black cordura suit that zips together.

The green-ish sets seem to be about in surplus shops and can be bought relatively cheaply compared to the black ones which rarely show up in any decent sizes. They are also a heavier weight material than the black ones so should last longer. Same material and colour as my old Solway Zipper.

I'll have to take some photos when I get the chance if there's interest.

Safe riding !

I'm not seeing the Barbour overtrousers in that website. No matter,as I won't be buying a set anytime soon-hopefully those Belstaff trousers I have should last very well.

I've recently been considering a Waxed Cotton Jacket... anyone know where I can get one in brown or olive?

Barbour do a few different International models. From memory, the current model that comes in brown (with self-colour brass hardware and studs) is the Vintage International.

Good on you - speaking as an ex-Belstaff employee...

Well, I had the day off, so I was working on one of my motorcycles, not good petrol every where, smells bad. I noticed a DHL truck, it was my Barbour jacket, I just ordered it Friday night Saturday UK, talk about fast, and for only $295! I really like it, glad I ordered size 42, fits great. Only gripe, and its a little one, it came in a zip lock bag, wounder what Belstaff uses! Here are a few pics, more when I go on our New Years ride, if weather holds out.

January 1st? Colorado? You might be a tad chilly in that coat lol

I've worn mine in March here in Michigan on an unfaired bike, and I had a fleece jacket on under it. Only my hands really got cold, even with what I thought were good heavyweight gloves.

Actually, I am going to cheat by wearing a modern high tech material liner under it and heated gloves! Since I will be on my Cafe Sportster, leg heat is no problem. Amazing how the thin high tech stuff is so warm! I laugh at the cold! And its not an all day ride, less then a 100 miles total!

Dave is that you?
I have army surplus International, that goes over my leather jacket. Bought also pants, used as well. Serves me as rainsuit. Have used them on my W-Bob, (W650) and Indian. Got the international quite cheaply from Evilbay couple of years ago. With a fleece underneath is good for walking the dogs in Southern Finnish damp winter weather. (well, now we have pretty much winter here, about -15C and a bit of snow)

Hello Jack !!
Yep tis I :) Nice to see you on here as well as the W650 forum. Fellow bikers and jacket nuts, eh ?

I love my International suits. Suprisingly warm with a fleece underneath. Although with the roads now gritted and salted I had my last rides on the Dub last Weds and Sat and Sunday. Nothing now until late March methinks.

Cheers buddy !!
