LOVED IT!! I honestly don't think anyone could have done a better job with this. What could have been a big mess totally was not.
VERY well done!:eusa_clap

It's extremely awesome. I would have preferred that they shortened each of the big action setpieces a bit and used the time for more character interaction, but since that's Whedon's specialty, there's actually quite a bit of that too. It certainly includes the tropes and situations that traditionally made superhero teamups enormous fun, and it deftly manages to pause for serious emotional beats as well as being stuffed with huge amounts of action and comedy.

No time to post at length today, but I will get back to this at some later point. The main thing is, the film mostly avoids the storytelling pitfalls of a such a complex undertaking and succeeds as tremendous fun for anybody who loves Marvel's characters.

Note that there are TWO post-credits sequences! Be sure to stay to the very end.

And thank you for the bit of post credit information. Definitely looking forward to this film.

I saw it last night but missed the post credit sequences because I went to the movies with people I don't usually go with and they wanted to leave. I was going to buy the disc when it becomes available anyway.

Anyway, this was probably the best super hero movie I've seen yet and I've seen most of them. Over 2 hours and I kept wanting more. Great mix of action, humor, and plot development. Even the character development, something I don't expect as much of in a movie like this, was more than adequate. It seems the more of these they make, the better they get at it.

Looking forward to The Dark Knight RIses.

I saw it at midnight Thursday/Friday. I absolutely loved it. I think it was the best superhero movie yet made.

What really struck me was that it was kinda the anti-Dark Knight. It proved that you don't have to be dark and gritty to make a fantastic superhero movie.

Also, wow that fight scene at the end. I am not normally that impressed by fight scenes (as opposed to, you know, characters and plots), but that one was simply beautifully made. I loved how it flowed and how he didn't use to much of the super close, shaky camera thing. I could actually follow what was going on, which is rare lately.

Precisely why I can't watch 90% of modern movies. I was drug to see the Hunger Games and I thought I was going to be sick from the shaky camera movements. That and I counted literally 3 seconds of shot before each cut, it was that quick almost the entire movie.

This film was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it! I cannot not get enough of Downey's Iron Man, so I really enjoyed those parts.

I also liked Steve Rogers' civilian wardrobe. It seemed right out of the LL Bean Signature catalogue. I especially liked his leather jacket.

Great to hear this movie is a winner. One of my friends runs a computer gaming forum and reviews there have been universally positive too.

This film is a crowning achievement! I loved every second of it, but most of all, I was wowed by Chris Evans portrayal of Captain America yet again.

What really made me smile was that when his character is in regular clothes, he wore high waisted trousers! I think little touches like that make a movie great!

I had noticed that immediately, too. While I loved the look, I wondered where he had gotten a hold of them and why. Wouldn't a guy, even transplanted 70 years into the future, just buy something that was available that was as close to what he used to wear, even the nicest things he could find? Was one of his priorities to go out and find a Matt Deckard or Indy Magnoli and have stuff custom made? Did he order repros from the internet? From Japan?

If I understand you correctly Floey, you want a "kinder, gentler "movie. One without explosions, soldiers in the city, etc. To make a movie adaption of the Avengers (or any superhero comic book) without action, paranoia and violence would be like trying to bake a chocolate cake without the chocolate. What would be the point?
Watching the trailer (without sound) made me think of post 911 paranoya. The trailer to the new Batman movie too. I don't know. I would like a comic adaption without this. Exloding streets and building. Soldiers in the city...

My son and I saw The Avengers yesterday and loved it.
Joss Whedon did a great job of balancing the many characters and forwarding the storyline in a cohesive and entertaining way. The 2+ hours flew by and left us wanting more Avengers.

My only complaint is I don’t like how dark 3D looks. I’m not sure if anyone else notices how dark the overall film is and fleshtones are washed out. I find it a big distraction.
If my wife decides to see the film I’d definitely skip the 3D version.

On a side note, we encountered James Durbin at the theater and spoke to him for a few minutes. James was an American Idol contestant last year who made it to the fourth position.

No, that was not mypoint. I am fine action paranoia and violence. Even with many with fight scenes. But I prefer a setting in a comic universe (like gotham city) to a modern version that looks like a normal action movie (Like "Crank" or "Wanted" with Angelina) I just don't enjoy this action movies as much. I also used to hate the "bullet time" effect.

I liked Tim Burtons "Batman returns" because it was very comic-like but also dark. I am also fine with movies in a WW2 setting or something. But since so many members of the FL seemed to enjoy this movie I would give it a chance. The FL usually is a place with good taste ;-)

Here's an inside out compliment. I really enjoyed the movie despite the 3D, which I felt was a distraction. It didn't look real to me because it was so obvious. I really don't see the value and/or attraction of it.

I had noticed that immediately, too. While I loved the look, I wondered where he had gotten a hold of them and why.

I imagine his character would only go to places where he would find things from his time. Look at the gym he was in when he was working on, very old fashioned, nothing but old posters on the wall. I think at one point in the Ultimates comic, they mentioned he went out of his way to find things from the 1940s.

Also I think it was mentioned that S.H.I.E.L.D. had provided him with period clothing, furniture, etc. so that he would be more comfortable while he was adjusting to the modern age. I got the feeling from the gym scene that he hadn't been out in the modern world much though they had been trying to get him to.

I skipped the 3D version altogether and never even thought about it while I was watching the film. Did it add anything to the experience (besides a headache of couse)?
