Clothes designed to get you authentically beaten up in the school yard. We've had this converstion before. What the heck are these designers thinking, and who the heck would wear these ludicrous science fiction costumes in real life?

There are many who'd take a similarly outraged view of any of the many excellent outfits on show in the "What are you wearing today?" thread... ;)

Authentic? no, entirely pretence, I'm afraid. They're not real clothes at all, but clever papier mache simulations. They do it with mirrors.

:p

Seriously, though.... it's the same old story: these catwalk shows are simply designed to be attention-grabbing, to make or maintain a name for the designer, create a brand. When the brand hits the shops, the actual clothes on sale will be quite, quite different.

Occasionally these sorts of shows do provide something genuinely interesting to me - see, for instance, the dress that Vivienne Westwood, well known for love of exploring British fabrics such as tartan and tweed, made entirely of traditional English carpet. Yes, carpet. For the most part, there's not much in such shows to interest me. That all said, to look at such designs in terms of actual street clothes is missing thep oint as to what they're about, really.

You nailed it.

Every year at the Tokyo auto show, even stoic Toyota shows up with a few zany looking show cars. But that's exactly what they are - show cars. These will never see the inside of a showroom but a piece of them might, like a watered-down version of the grill or tail light treatment. It's just a way to test the waters of what the rest of the public wants in the future and experiment with what might be.

No harm no foul. Frankly, I like to see artists pushing the envelope. Art is either plagarism or revolution.

I'm happy that flight helmets are now acceptable street wear. But I'll bet the trend doesn't last long enough for people to twig onto the ear-cupped variety and start stuffing in their iPod phones. That would be just too rational.

Absurd

I might wash the car in some of those duds, provided I did it at night and the neighbors were out of town.

On second thought: Naaaa.

As a menswear nut, I’ve spent more hours than I care to admit fawning over the sartorial splendor of the innovative, meticulous (and arguably neurotic) Prince of Wales. And if you’re a true fan of the man credited with such style staples as turn-ups (trouser cuffs) and the Windsor knot (neckwear), you’d definitely be remiss in not knowing about the one and only– Bunny Roger. Quite honestly, he’s definitely an acquired taste, and the dandy of all dandies– and now fabulously back in the spotlight with a recent inspiration nod from John Galliano. Bunny Roger, with his epic style and fabled colorful persona is the definitely the yin to the Princes’ yang. Bunny possessed a bold flair for tailoring and attitude that rivals his regal peer in terms of eccentricity, inspiration, and attention to detail. To simply say he’s an original does not do the man justice.

Gentlemen...

Powder Room is next door.

We don't need this senseless girly stuff in here, there are plenty of other places on the WWW you can get in touch with your feminine side, if needs must.

It's bad enough on the NYC cat-walk.
