1.) Why are bowlers so cheap?

I see super vintage Bowlers in my size with some regularity at what seem like low prices to me, and the same size fedora would either be a gazillion dollars or non-existent - and non-existent is more common.

2.) Why is every Knox Twenty that fits me a stingy-brim?

Bowlers are cheap because: when was the last time you saw anyone walking down the street wearing one? ...even in London! The answer is the same for your query on stingy brims....they are just not desirable today. I picked up a pristine Lock & Co. bowler, new they cost $1200 ....picked it up for $100 and probably could have bargained down to $50 but the dude needed the cash more than I did.

Bowlers and covered wagons will be back some day, just you wait and see!

Yours does look something like a wholesale tag. I have a production tag in my 50s 3X OR. I don't know why only a few selected hats have them.

Ps, as I understand it, the $107 is per dozen, not per each...and that may also be the wholesale price, not retail.
I would post this under new hats, but this is really more about the question. This is a late fifties, early 60's Knox Martin in velour. Has anyone ever seen a manufacturer tag like the one in photos 3 and 4? View attachment 804441 View attachment 804442 View attachment 804443 View attachment 804444

That almost looks like a listing for a wholesale lot of hats rather than a single.

Hey folks. I'm a perpetual neophyte with hats but was lucky enough to find this Optimo Chicago panama in a thrift store recently. Was trying to find the model, or at least weave style. Any help appreciated!

Plaited ribbon wrapped around and around while being sewn to the previous row. I too would like to know what that is called. It's not as labor intensive as traditional Ecuadorian weaving.

Here is a question, in two parts; does it drive anybody else nuts when you get an offer on an eBay hat and you accept the offer and then the prospective buyer 1.) has their payment ****ed to some method that doesn't automatically work, which is what is intended and 2.) takes a metric eternity to decide whether they are going to pay for the item or not?

That is all. :)
