As much as the heat it’s the humidity that does it for me. Last year I worked a cheaper will gel hat out in the field and it kept the sun off and dropping it in a rice paddy wasn’t an issue, but it was a tad warmer than I would have wanted.I actually kept the liner in and didn't have any issues. I did eventually remove the liner but I can't remember why. Didn't notice a change in comfort level.
In my town in Malaysia, where I spend most of my time, the temps are almost consistently 31 Celsius all year. Anything more than that became noticeably hot in the FED IV, but it only gets hotter in Melaka around March.
I’m not sure if it’s possible but I was considering putting eyelets in the sides of a fed 4 and pulling the liner out, then it’d be ideal for summer.
