what would you do? Go for the sure thing or try to dial the custom maker in closer to what you want?

I'd get the one that you believe will make you happy. (and only you can really decide that)

If you settle for a hat that is not what you want, then every time you wear it you will be reminded of your lack of satisfaction.

Ive had a few Miller hats over the years and a lot of them were actually made by Stetson and Beaver Brand. Quality wise they were fine. I have four nice Stetson made Millers on my wall right now... all marked as Sovereign or Imperial Ultimate finish felt identical to similar Stetsons. As a brand, and as far as their above mid grade hats, I have no issues with Millers offerings. Nice folks too.

I have a question, I mostly use this forum on my PC and occasionally on my phone. However when I search for posts by me I can't find all of them here.

Although if I go to my profile and click on "reactions you received" I see reactions to my posts... posts that don't come up with a search of posts by Georgie Girl as well as some that do show up under that search.

My main concern with this is that I (as well as some of you guys) use the FL to help me catalog my vintage hats, as well as post photos of them for the rest to see in the wide world of surviving hats. So is this some sort of bug in the system or is it just on my end? Thanks

Any thoughts on this jacket? Seller claims it’s made in Japan but unnbranded (he calls it a ‘Japanese archive piece’)

Going for about $350

Question about 4 corded hat bands. not sure if it has a specific name but its on vintage hats , its not wide , thin and looks like 4 or 3 cords sewn together then made into a hat band. I really want one, anyone know of a source to get this? Its also flat material , its not like the European corded hat bands. Would love to buy a roll of this material even. The hat band like his hat but in other colors , anyone know a source for it?

Check in with the folks at Pure Beaver Hat Supply. The 2ply cord is available on their site, but the listing currently reads: "we carry 2 ply 3 ply 4 ply and 5 ply various colors, please inquire."

Yes, another recommendation to check out PureBeaver. I have lots of their ribbon and it is good stuff. As well, I think his stock on 4 ply is limited in colour selection but it is easy to fashion 4 ply out of 2 ply by stacking them, joining them at the back with iron on interfacing. Or if you can obtain a light color they dye nicely as well.

The stacking and iron is a great idea

Would you say that in the 1960's, a western hat with label saying "Custom Made" and priced at a Texas store back then at $40.00, is a good quality hat?
Could go either way. There are lots of vintage hats with the small square/rectangular gold, silver, black and red labels that I have seen that say Custom Made followed by the size. They weren’t all created equal but usually an early 60’s, $40 hat would be a hat of some quality.

There have been several hats posted with decorative side vent holes in the side of the crowns... I really like the look and would love o try it myself. Problem is I dont have any punches that small. I wonder if a dremel tool with a tiny drill bit would work? Anyone added side vent holes to their hats? Cant go out and play because its raining here today so I may pull out the rotary tool and some scrap felt to test it out

Update.... The rotary tool/ drill bit does ok on stiff felt, but on softer felt the holes werent all that clean... I dove onto one of my leather companies websites and ordered a mini leather punch set ( 1mm-5mm)
