I see that smashable wool fedoras don’t have many fans here and some of the responses led me to believe that wool was the weak link.

Does the same apply to a rabbit packable hat?

You will never get the crisp look of a fine fur fedora out of a packable hat. Yes, they are serviceable, look ok for a casual travel hat. I never pack a fedora. I wear it, carry a silk bag in my pocket and when on the plane place my hat in the bag and place under the seat.

Interesting. I'll be flying about 10k miles next week and I guess that means I should not bring my hat.

On another note, what do you call this measuring device?

I see some hats referred to as having a dimensional brim which implies that the opposite must also be true and that's not possible.

What exactly is that a reference to?
It’s just our artful way of describing hats with brims that may be longer to the front and back than on the sides or vise versa

This is mostly an Indiana Jones hat thing. During production, a tool called a rounding jack is used to cut the brim. These usually get set at a specific width, so it is uniform all around. Whereas a dimensional brim will have varying widths. The Indy hat is typically 2 3/4" in the front and back and 2 1/2" on the sides. While there are historical examples of dimensional brims, they are fewer and far between. Some hats with rolled edges (Derby hats) necessarily have wider brims on the sides to maintain proportions.

Depending on the weather at my destination I wear my fedora or a tweed newsboy cap. If a sunny locale I wear my Panama. Packing in a silk bag with a velcro closure protects the hat while under your seat. Way cheaper solution than buying a hat when you arrive.

Hello! Recently bought a repro of a Laskinlamb Grizzly jacket by Sugar Cane and I love it very much. This is the first leather jacket with really high arm holes I've owned, is there any way to help with this? Will it get any better as the jacket breaks in (it's fairly new)?
