Does this brim seem 2-1/4" or 2-3/8"? According to a search, Art Fawcett said Bogart's 'Maltese Falcon' hat was 2-3/8", so I'd lean toward that. But someone else said 2-1/4".

What bearing this has on anything, I'm not entirely sure.

(Side note: Bogart's swagger is off the charts.)

I'm lucky to have an exact 58cm head circumference, making a 7 1/4 an excellent fit. Would my 2 3/8" brim look proportional to Bogart's?

As a rule I don't try to emulate anyone, but his hat wearing is closest to what I'm trying to achieve, I think.

Hey! New to the forum here with the sort of question I'm sure gets asked a ton...

I've been jonesing for a Borsalino for a few years now. Figured I'd get one when I strike it big. I just moved to L.A. and first order of business is to explore my nearby thrift shops. This hat caught my eye, so when I flipped it over and saw it was an $8 Borsalino I was floored. Then I almost passed out when it fit! So now I have all the questions. When? Where? How should I clean it?

I've been searching the forum and I'm starting to think it's one of the Bollman's? I'd love some insight as it's back story continues to set my imagination running

Welcome and congrats on a great find. Look under the sweat band and find the paper label. Take and post photos of that. It will help a lot.
As far as cleaning is concerned, use Scotch tape to take the layer of dust off. Dab lightly with it. Once most of it's off, use a hat brush for the rest. Brush anti-clockwise.

I've been gingerly prodding behind the sweat band, but I don't see any paper label.

I'll be right on the scotch tape as soon as I find some!

Welcome and congrats on a great find. Look under the sweat band and find the paper label. Take and post photos of that. It will help a lot.

I recently picked up an old Stetson from the Brylcreem era. I'm generally not too picky, but the white bow at back looks gross -- greasy and brown with dirt. Can I just slice this out and throw it away? It doesn't look like it is actually holding the sweat band seam together.

Correct, it is not functionally integral to the sweatband seam.
