Can someone help me out and tell me, who is admin here in this forum? Seems like my entire thread was deleted or moved, but I didn't get any notifications about it. I don't want to behave wrong, and want to know, what went wrong.

The Lounge has many threads on various subjects and the moderators work to minimize the number of threads by adding them to existing threads on the same subject. Many use the Lounge to research things and this reduces the number of threads you need to search.

However, I agree with you it may have been a mistake in your case, as Christy's and Herbert Johnson are separate companies.

Is the Akubra Coober Pedy and the Cattleman the same hat with a different bash? I like the available colors on the Cattleman - could it be re-bashed to be like the Coober Pedy or do you need an open crown hat to achieve that much change?

Main difference between the two is the crown form. Cooper Pedy is more center pinch but still a fine/small tear drop while the Cattleman is wide open full teardrop uptop.

The Cattleman has no liner either, the Cooper Pedy is lined and also has a Opal (gem stone). Cooper Pedy more a dress hat, Cattleman is like a newer version of a Stockman, good all round Aussie workhat and one of the most favored down here.

Vents are different, but both 3 holes.

ok, so I have a ton of hats now, have been collecting from Ebay mainly. Some that I like are a bit small and need to be sized up, as I am in between sizes, or perhaps a LO. Am getting tired of cranking on a Hat Jack and feel that I may be altering vintage hats that could go to someone who it fits better. Am wondering,,, should I just sell the hats that are snug/small or keep working with them and jacking away? It seems that they want to return to the shrunken state and it is a constant battle. I do like them but feel I may be ruining them, as the stretching increases the taper. Any thoughts or impressions?

Overstrikes like this appear from time to time... this one perhaps the result of a legal action by Knox (HCA) who registered the trademark for "moveo et proficio" in connection with hats before the turn of the 20th century. The milan body was probably imported - perhaps sold by a small jobber who didn't do their homework? Just a guess...

I’ve only seen them in wool and wool fedoras don’t get a lot of love here. Some of the vintage European wool hats, well that’s a whole different story, but recent Wool fedoras: not so much.

All that matters is that you like it, but most hat wearers appreciate the significant advantages from paying a bit more and getting a fur felt hat.

To me a black fedora has an air of dressiness. A brown fedora can dress-up nicely, but it can also go casual just a little bit easier than the black. That's just my perception, and your mileage may vary. Enjoy your Saxon!

I started to look for one for sewing together liners and for doing the zigzag for the sweatband. With so many brands out there, I started to question, which options and properties I need...

I have a Pantropic LiteFelt hat that I love the fit, love the color, love the size of the brim, and love the overall look. What I don't love is the "flop hat" appearance. I was going to ask about hat stiffeners and I see this discussion has been had before. But there are a variety of solutions people use, including hair spray, shellac and what-have-you. I found on Amazon a product called "Bickmore Kahl Hat Stiffener" that they claim, "will not affect tone, texture or color." Sounds like just the thing! My questions: Is it? And if not, what is?

To be honest most my of own hats I've tried to soften them rather than stiffen being Akubra's lol. But I would use a blonde shellac unless the hat has a strong colour then it may not matter so much if blonde or natural. For re-water proofing I always used a Aussie brand of Shelley's products but Scotchguard would be fine too one would think.

Edit: I've never tried any of the waterbased products as I was always worried about body heat mixed with perspiration and moisture. Hard to see it lasting long in warm humid weather on a persons head is all that comes to mind.

I'd suggest reading the above suggested thread by Steven on the forums here and see what others find most successful here overall.

Just for clarification do you mean Headband or Hatband (inner sweatband/outer dress-band)?

I don't know if they sell them but they do offer refurb/repair services at a few locations and one would think a lost/broken sweatband or hatband would be repaired or replaced at such a service. Could always ask one of their distributors I guess or authorized places of repair (normally a main distrib)
