When a hat like this shows up in size 7 3/4 (62) for that cheap I don't think, I just buy it. I also bought three straw hats for the same seller.

Despite my age, I prefer to shop via the internet and not having a website makes it difficult for me. I eschew social media (other than the Lounge and what is required at work) so Instagram et al doesn't help me. I've seen his work here at the Lounge and it looks top notch and some heavy hitters have endorsed him without reservation. I just like websites with lots of information and lots of photos. Just a personal preference. Back in the day, I had no trouble ordering from the Sears and Roebuck catalog, but now I'm an brick and mortar or dedicated website guy (or yes, Amazon). I get that there is expense involved with setting up and running a website, but that's the world I live in.
I can't argue with this, 'cause I'm very much the same way.

To be honest, initially I found the exchange with Tim difficult; completely my problem and had absolutely nothing to do with him. The first contact or two were done through the message system here on The Lounge, but once he got started everything was done via cell phone--a couple of calls, and several texts. I have to admit it's an efficient system and, unless things have changed, Tim provided photos every step of the way to make sure I was satisfied with his work. But I hate phones--always have, probably always will--and the thought of so much texting was initially off-putting for me. Tim's relaxed demeanor made it easy for me, and I quickly found our exchanges to be pleasant rather than torturous, so the "ordeal" of all of that texting back-and-forth only existed in my mind.

Also, since we're discussing custom hats that are made-to order, even with a website there would have to be a great deal of back-and-forth through phone calls, texts, and/or e-mails, so I don't see much benefit to a website that only serves to show the hatter's previous work when you can do that just as easily in the various threads here and on "social" websites like Instagram. *shrug*

Of course, that's just my opinion; I could be wrong. :D

I'd love to hear your review of a NW rabbit. I've considered it myself.
I suppose the only fair comparison would be to do a side by side of a Camel rabbit and beaver but I only have the rabbit. However, I do have, from Mike, a Winchester rabbit from a long ways back in the days before his shop, a newish FEPSA rabbit and now the Winchester Camel rabbit. In terms of quality and likeability I would rank them, early rabbit then the FEPSA (cost me the same as a Winchester beaver due to Mike's cost on the felt) and finally the new Camel. I asked Mike to make this hat with a soft hand which he did brilliantly and it is superior to the other two and much more so than his early Winchester. Even placing this new rabbit next to two of his beaver hats it compares favourably. And this is more than the "cheap" me speaking as I really think this Camel hat is stellar even if it is a lowly bunny.

You're absolutely right. Once the decision is made to go with a hatter it's all phone calls and emails for me. I guess I just like seeing the past work and all the hours putting it together in my head before I make contact.

I'm thinking that an AlleyKat custom is in my future.

I've nothing against any hatter and for the most part, think we are so blessed to have so many damned good hatters that are here on the Lounge, yet I have been more than pleased with anything purchased from the hatters I have purchased from and have owned a few customs that had been "prior owned" hats. Esther made both myself and Daniel, custom hats that are just amazing, and I have purchased three customs from Tim. I've also had our BOND (Scott) refurb a hat or two and he is amazing at what he does.

Currently I have had Tim converting a Western to a Fedora. I actually have put him through the mill on this, he already had the brim ribbon on,l liked it BUT just wanted to have something different done so I requested the change of color and a little bit of the"theme" of the hat for colors to touch on Native American Indians as I have a great turquoise hat pin, ring, cuff, and western tie bolo style slider, all of these are silver and turquoise for Daniel...,so I asked the light grey looking ribbon to come off and be replaced with some light blue, and then red in the trim on the bow keeper.... Tim made sure more than once if I was certain this is what I wanted him to do...once again taking what I wanted to the top of his concern. I will continue to have Esther make me hats when I can afford them for myself, and Tim make Daniel's hats and of course when I get around to it, send our BOND a few hats to refurb as he does a super great job, he already should be making hats!

That is a very nice looking hat, I like the finish on the inside, as well as how this one looks, sort of like from one of the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns...

Does this mean I'll look like a young Clint Eastwood in this hat? I'd take that. :)
Honestly, this hat is way out of my comfort zone but in that condition and for the price, I had to do it. I also believe that we should all step out of our well-worn grooves from time to time and try new things. Just don't laugh when I post photos wearing it.

Yes I sure understand when a person likes to wear a certain type of hat, it is not the same if another type or style comes along, do you wear it, or no....but that hat is so sharp looking, other people are going to look and think you are as sharp as ever wearing it. Now if that hat was a horrid looking hat, then well....I'd say convert it or...just shoot it! LOL! But really that is a very good looker...try it and see what's shakin'.....!

I'm getting there slowly, and I would love a website, because I too see the value. I can't hide behind the fact, that, due to extreme circumstances, I'm struggling to get there. That is to include, everything across the board meaning me, getting by, just living.

In 2013, I got hit head on by a underaged drunk driver with bare minimum insurance.
Yep, I have underinsured coverage, but that is all still pending.

This head on nightmare, was bad timing. I was in a new job, trying to qualify for a loan, I had no choice, but to work, hurt.

I was on friendly terms, and rode motorcycle, with the man. He knew I was hurting, I had been honest on how I was feeling. And he was able to see this as well, and he saw a liability.

I believe that was the reason, for which I was let go in January 2016 and with no explanation. Not even a handshake, when I thanked him for the opportunity he gave me to walk my dad's footsteps as a Machinist, he couldn't get me out the door fast enough, never talked to me after.

So what was a hobby for years, now made me step up, to enhance what I do, and grow as a maker and to do quality work, and expand on my offerings.

I'll get that website one of these days. I'm determined. And one day I'll spend about $12,000 to get 2 block sets, of cloned 52s in regular and long oval. 2 flange styles for each block bought, a few extra back up blocks in sweet spot sizes to keep things moving along. And if I can ever pull it off, a small building to work from.

Dreams, and wishes of one man. There is a light at my feet, the path is lit. Meanwhile I will progress, and I will make it all work.

Just some insight, as to why I am, who I am. Be well all.

Tim what is your average turn around time?
It depends on what you are looking for. And if the body is in my available stock; or, what's on hand at Winchester. Just a for instance. Navy Blue in Staple, is on back order and will likely be 5 weeks until available.

I only have a few orders. I have blocks but I needed to get 2 blocks made to fill 2 orders. The blocks ship tomorrow.

I'm thinking end of April, beginning of May. That's if one got in line now. If you want staple, let me know, because I may have to order; and I like 2 on hand, when working staple. Actually placing, an order tomorrow, for a order I just picked up. Luckily it is available.

What styles of hats would these be called? Brian Jones, the founder of the Rolling Stones, was often seen wearing them in 1966-1968. Also, what style is Keith Richard wearing in the last photo?

...Keiths may be a womans hat
Brian's could be as well; "fashion" was very much an "anything goes" affair in those days, possibly more so than at any other time in recorded history. Maybe they both borrowed them from Anita Pallenberg (she left Jones for Richards in March of 1967).

John Lennon's hat is simply a flat and wide brimmed hat with what appears to be a low Telescope crease, or maybe a flat top. According to this page the hat was made by Stelzig's Saddlery Co. in Houston, Texas.
